22 Hornet Hog Down

Hoping the link above works as its the killshot video. I've been toying around with the idea of shooting a wild boar with my 22 hornet for a while now. All the ballistics I ran looked like it was more than enough so I worked up a load with the 45gn TSX moving 2900fps out of a 20" barrel. Sighted 1" high at 100 gives me a MPBR at 0-170 yards for a 2" target. Around 200 yards was the max distance before velocity dipped below 2k which I wanted to stay above. Shot this boar at 164 yards quartering away behind the shoulder, impact velocity 2100fps, full pass through double lung. First photo is the entrance, second photo is the exit behind the opposite shoulder. Got good expansion based on the exit wound and lungs. Wish I found the bullet. Clipped the rear edge of the lung on the way in and center punched the opposite lung lobe. Ran 40ish yards and died. Good blood trail too.

Right bullet in right place works every time. I too love the 22 Hornet. Very much undervalued today, but still a great choice for quiet varmint shooting. Anyone that says they aren't accurate never really owned one.

Target squares are1/2x1/2" . Takes 4 squares to make a 1" square.

The Browning 22 Hornet is one of the guns that I wish I had never sold. Ink Pen re-sprung trigger was 12 oz., and the rifle was a fine shooter.

40G Speer spire points are incredible coyote/fox/bobcat bullets, busting shoulders and ribs with ease, AA1680 with BR4's. I could touch the lands in my Ruger 77s and Browning with this bullet at Mag length, which made the bullet incredibly accurate.

I've never had the guts to try it but I'd love to shoot a deer with one of my 3 Hornets. If I was going to, it would be with a Barnes.

I would have zero hesitation after a full pass through on a boar as far as it was. Barnes for penetration for sure
