On my Bat Igniter action, I have 26" Muller works bbl. R Remington Varmint contour chambered it 22 Creedmoor. I think the gunsmith that cut the chamber did something wrong. Can it be cut down and re-chamber by a smith who knows what he's doing

TO keep this simple - Yes it can removed and set back a few threads and rechambered most " likely ."

Need to know what the suspected issue is first to answer this correctly.
Is it head space?
Is it throat length?
Is it an oval chamber?
What do you perceive the problem is?

Cheers.
For a custom rifle, it shoots unsatisfactorily. Thinking about sending it to SAC. They'
re website says they'll chamber for $500.00, so I sent them an encrypted top-secret message

Ok, that's an easy fix, set-back 2 complete threads and, re-time the barrel, re-chamber and done.
I do this on my comp barrels 3 times, however, my barrels have no taper. Often, I will remove a quarter inch or so.
Interesting, I also used to charge $500 for barrel work, re-chambering was an additional $250.

Cheers.

Did you get with the GS, and afford him to fix it (at no additional cost of course)? Unsatisfactory with what, factory ammo or handload?

Yes!

Missing a lot of info here. Why do you think he did something wrong just because you don't feel it shoots satisfactory? There are so many variables. Might be the scope, the stock, the rings, the mount, the ammo, the nut behind the stock 🙂 might be a bad barrel. Talk to every top barrel maker and they'll tell ya sometimes for unknown reasons a barrel just doesn't shoot. The stars and moon were not aligned right when it was made. Don't blame your GS as the default. I had a Shilen barrel once that didn't shoot as expected. They had me send it back. Apparently they saw something on inspection and and sent it back to me saying cut off an inch and see how it does. And if that doesn't help here is a brand new barrel with it.
Give the guy a shot.

If you can chamber a round and shoot it, it is likely not the chamber. I'd look at your reloading components, torques, bedding, rings & scope first. If all that is good, probably just a bad barrel. I've seen ugly chambers shoot better than good.

Agreed!

Yes!
I like all of us have a bunch of other rifles to shoot. So, I procrastinated and now it's been a couple of years. I'll eventually have a new bbl spun on it.

I'd still reach out to your guy and tell him ya just got around to shooting it and see what he says.

By the way, when Shilen told me to cut an inch off the muzzle that rifle shot absolutely amazing.

Did you mean to respond to me or the OP?

Yeh my first thought was how do you know the problem isn't with the crown or internal? I wouldn't immediately blame the chamber.
