interesting that you were able to checker after the stock was lacquered. I imagine there was a bit of touch-up after?
No touchup at all. The finish on the stock is automotive clear. The finish process is not what it appears to be. The base for the clear is MinWax antique m, hand rubbed wood finish mixed with a dark stain and then sanded into the wood with three applications starting with 120 grit wet sandpaper, and then my son clears it with a semi-flat clear. I thought that I would have touchup to do, however this was not the case. Also the woman who did the work has been doing checkering for Dennis for 20+ years.
I dealt through Dennis Olson himself. He has built several guns for me through the years. I like the older Ruger 77 tang safety rifles, but could not find anyone who wanted to work on them. There were all kinds of excuses from smiths, even that they wouldn't work on them because they are known for cracked receivers to the receivers are known for blowing up!! Dennis was known for his work on the Ruger 77 tang safety rifles. The photo that I posted here on this thread is a Ruger 77 tang safety rifle, I needed checkering done so he is the one who I contacted. This is when I found out that he had a woman who has been doing his stock checkering for years. Take a close up of the photo that I posted, for me the checkering is impeccable.
