Montana Hellroaring 502-60 Ram tag

Trying to help an older friend who drew a Montana Hellroaring 502-60 ram tag. he's not a forum guy. He's looking for a full guide service.

Any help would be greatly appreciated by an old timer.

Would need 2 guides, pre-scouting.

Is it a doable unit? or its heavy back county.

I can't help much, because I never set foot in Montana.

More than likely one of the toughest hunts in the world, for sure the toughest in NA.

This is one of the "Unlimited" units so if you apply you get the tag, so does the rest of the world...

I'd call Jack Jr in Butte, he's got more experience than anyone else in the world in that unit.

This is NOT a walk in the park

Agree with dogz. Tough, tough area. Very few sheep. Many try for years without success when you could buy license otc. The Jack Jr. suggestion is spot on.

The other thing is join HF and call them and talk with them about outfitters in the unit. They may well have someone that they use as well.

It's a rough tag but it does let you show up and play with everyone else, it's a multi year commitment IMO.

I've long told people that they should make a 5 year commitment to the hunt for a ram

When you say older friend ,how old is older?
I would not suggest anyone over 60 try hunting this area.
AND then he better be a special 60 or he will be wasting his money on a guide!

I know a guy thats had the one near Gardnier twice,He was packing out first day.Scored both times, but hes and absolute mountain unit.High country muley hunter.

Black Otter Outfitters, Pray, MT, have a base camp at the junction of Grizzly Creek and Hellroaring Creek. You ride horseback from Mill Creek drainage over Wheeler Pass. Gary Francis will be well informed to provide guidance.

Hmm, I'm pretty darn sure the area you're talking about is a world away from where Unit 502 is. You sure that Black Otter goes all the way over to where 502 is?

I stand corrected. Hellroaring Creek is familiar. Appears 502 is way East. Sorry for confusion.
