I bought a box of the 7mm 164 Gr Apex Afterburners to test out in my 7 PRC. So I will post my findings for anyone interested.
Rifle: 7 PRC on a tikka action with a proof prefit 22" barrel sitting in a McMillan Game Warden LR. Has a Dead Air Nomad-L suppressor on it.
Bullet: 164 Gr Apex Afterburner Stage 3 bullets seated .025" off rifling.
Powder: Ramshot Grand 3 rounds each of 68gr to 70 Gr in .5 gr increments.
Primer: CCI 250
Brass: Petersen
68.5 Gr of Ramshot Grand was very accurate and the very good ES. 69.5 started showing pressure and 70 Gr had a shiny ejector mark on the brass.
68.5 gr three shot group measured .4" center to center and averaged 3040 fps.
I loaded up 5 more of the 68.5 gr and went and shot at 100 yards again. I dropped the 5th shot and knew I did it right when I shot so that stinks but the group was really good besides that one shot but it's still a .72" 5 shot group. If you put the three shots from the previous picture along with this group, it would be a 8 shot .75" group. I'll take that from a magnum cartridge anyday.
Now I will load up some more and go shoot them at 500 or 600 yards and see how they do at distance. I'm pretty sure they will do well.
I will be testing the effectiveness of these bullets on some pigs here soon at around 600-700. I will post the results in vitals.
