Colorado Compliant ?

??? CO does not require non-lead bullets. Though, the current leftist government is trying to head that way.

This is from the CPW website:

"In 2023, the Colorado state legislature passed House Bill 23-1036, the "Nontoxic Bullet Replacement Hunting Program." This legislation tasked CPW with working with nongovernmental partners to design a two-year 'pilot' program to encourage hunters to voluntarily switch to lead-free ammunition. CPW and partners have met monthly to develop outreach and educational materials for hunters, coordinate strategies and communications, and provide range demonstrations. In fall 2025, a targeted sample of deer and elk rifle hunters will be surveyed on their use and opinions of lead-free ammunition. A report will be available in 2026."

"No new regulations on lead ammunition have been enacted."

Not yet?..but coming soon!

The state, in just a few short years (a couple of decades) has gone from a thing of beauty to……what nightmares are made of!

I'm truly sorry for those Americans still living there….may God be with you! memtb

Where we hunt in Colorado, we've met some of the most friendly people on earth, quite unlike Idaho where we been run off the road and been called names in the town we were in. Do not go there if you have Calif license plate or even Utah or Navada plates.

All the projectile needs to be is full bore. No sabots.

Other than that, no scopes or powder in pellets are allowed. Pretty simple really.

I wonder how that will effect Muzzle loaders. I know that in Montana you have to use lead ball bullets. Not sure in Mexico-North (cal), because I am not up uses of lead in muzzle loaders there. I guess I will have to look that up. I know I was looking at getting a inline muzzle loader, but most states don't allow them anymore. I can see why! Hell they about as good as a cartridge rifle. So I am looking at a captlock type of muzzle loader.
Looked up on no-lead bullets. They have them. I'll be ****!

I still have and use a couple of Hawken side hammer caplocks, 50 and 54 cal, but I also have a nice inline with scope for the states that allow its usage. With a sabot load and right bullet, it is like shooting a large caliber cartridge rifle round.

CO is becoming CA.........

I worry how long Montana can sustain. Everytime we go out there, more liberals with more nonsense.

We don't like to see those plates in Ar. either.

Not so much. In talking to somebody, they seem to be on the right of things. Lots of people like my Trunp hat that I wear most of the time. Even young people.
I am a Mexico-North transplant. I sure as hell vote for people that have "R" infront of their name. We sent Tester down the road, findly last year.

Hope you stay right about it.
I remember when Co. was still conserative, buttttt.
My wife and I go out west, with Montana the destination, and we can tell a big difference in the bigger towns each year we go.

For ML season, you need to use either 45 or 50 cal full bore bullets, no sabots- caliber is based on what big game you intend to hunt-read the regs.
You can use power belt, federal b.o.r.e lock, hornaday bore driver or other similar bullets with a "separating base" -- lead or copper are allowed.

Loose powder only, no smokeless- no pellets, bh209 is ok - open sights ( no optics or anything that has a lens you look through ( even if its not magnified)-- such as 0 power scope, red dot, "see-all" or anything similar--- hooded front sights are ok as are rear peep as long as they have no glass or plastic to look through--- no battery powered/lit, but fiber optic is ok

Or go old school with real goex, flint, patch and lead round ball---- or you can use sabots and smokeless if you use them only during regular rifle season though

What do you think is the best Colorado compliant projectile ?
Let me ask grain, this time a little more detail.
I plan on a Muzzleloader elk hunt in Colorado this year. Will be a 50 cal CVA.
Of the available bullets that fall in line with Colorado regs, what would you recommend? Lead or copper ? I plan on shots up to 250 yards. What weight bullets would be best for elk ?
