Winchester Featherweight stainless synthetic

Trying to figure out info on a gun I bought my Dad in the 90s who has now gifted it to my son as a graduation gift.

It is a model 70 stainless with a synthetic stock. The stock is shaped exactly like the wooden featherweight stocks. The stock has the Schnabel fore-end.

I have been searching and can't find another one like it. Chat GPT says they never made a synthetic stainless featherweight with the schnabel fore-end.

Any thoughts?

A friend of mine had a SS, Laminate stock, Featherweight…..it was a beautiful rifle. Well…..I thought so anyway! 😁 memtb
 
Yes, it is in my catalogue. New Haven listed them in the classic line, however, none ever came to Australia.
You may find it was a special made for a distributor like Cabela's.
Have you tried searching the serial number?

I did try the serial number but nothing is showing. I was working in the gun dept at Dicks Sporting Goods when I purchased it so it may have been a special run for them. I may call Winchester on Monday to see if they have any info.
 
They were called the model 70 classic featherweight all terrain.

Made from about 1995-1997 or so.

I saved up my mowing money and bought one in 1997 for $518. 270 win. I thought it was the most perfect rifle ever imagined. Has been a good gun. Stock looks cool, plastic, and not stiff at all.


I don't see any "engraving" on your stock.

In that case it may be a custom shop model, or aftermarket added with a mcmillan stock on it.

Post a Pic of whole rifle.

Sorry I am no help, but looks like their polymer stock version.

Very cool gift from grandpa.
 
Featherweight is a bit ambiguous for those rifles, not heavy but not a lightweight at all. :)

Oh that stock is definitely different than what's on mine. Mine has checkering throughout it but like yours does not feel like a cheap inexpensive stock

I have one but it came from McMillan. Black with Schnabel forend. Had it on a 7 Mag but then got rid of the barreled action but kept the stock.
