10mm handgun

We haven't drawn a darn tag in 4 years! But, if we "ever" get up your way…..I'll holler at ya! Try to give you enough time to get away! 😜 We've been know to go to Cody…..just can't remember the last time! memtb
General tag here brother. No draw. Muleys 2022 and 2023 200 yds from each other. Elk 600 yds from each other. Whitetail last 5 200 yds each other. Drawn 3 years in a row. Ill tell you what tags to get for elk and whitetail if you want to drive. Whitetail 50 mile from Thermop. Elk and Muley here. About 100 miles from you. Getter done brother !

I'd rather be carrying an AR with a full battle load if I thought I was going to have to do something crazy where I needed to get out of the thickest of situations. I mean my AR-pistol only weighs a little bit more than my 10mm fully loaded.
AR won't fit in a chest holster while bow hunting though. 😉

I'm sure was a black bear 🐻
I'm sending some griz and wolves you way too ! Trying to wrestle an elk around by yourself makes you appreciate how strong any bear is. The last two years I shot cow elk at Bobcat Hulahand were the two high school wrestlers got mauled. The one in 2022 was 2 months after I believe. 😳 You have keep popping your head up like a Prairie dog while cutting up deer and elk on the North and South Fork (Shoshone rivers). Hunting alone here SUCKS anymore.
Yep, better to have a partner to stand guard while you get your business done.

With the very elk I just described, we were quartering after dark to load on a sled to get them out to the truck.

My wife tried to cover me while I worked, but was difficult as we had a light snow falling and every breath limited visibility. A bit tense when you're up to your armpits in fresh elk, with limited visibility, in an area with heavy grizzly activity. Ya just can't get real comfortable! 😜 memtb

It's legal to carry here in AZ as well. I could keep one in my pack, but not effective with a cat on your back.
As long as he doesn't get your neck 😳 I forgot. Two of my Az. buddies there carry pistols while bow hunting. One had a sow black bear that had a cub climb tree up to beneath the stand and swat at him a hissed like a mtn. lion. He sent me the video. He had just switched from 9mm and bought a 10mm. Heck a 22 at that range... I've bow hunted deer and elk there many times since 1988 and never thought about carrying a pistol at the time. Wasn't legal until what, about 2008 or so ? I don't remember. Now I'd be wearing a shoulder holster if it didn't interfere with bow. If so on the hip. I bowhunted elk mostly in 5BN 9 times and deer on the Kiabab 12A every year until it went to a draw for archery also. I've only drawn rifle elk in 2010 and 2022. Rifle deer 3 times. Drew 12B late in 2001. An awesome hunt. Now you can't draw 5BN, 5BS or 6A archery elk even with 15 points or more. I'm just rambling as usual 🙄

I'd be willing to give up a few and a lot of wolves. If I knew they wanted some I could have grabbed these two. One was last Oct. at 24 yds. He had just got done covering up deer carcass from week before. The other was on my cow elk carcass from week before last Nov.. Went back following week. Thats all that was left. Size 12 boot. You getting any wolves or griz there on west side around you , Big Piney, Afton, etc yet ? Wyoming or Salt River Range ? If not I have plenty here I can herd your way brother 😉View attachment 549349View attachment 549350View attachment 549351View attachment 549352View attachment 549353
You better keep all your apex predators on your side of the divide, hate for you to run out. There's plenty over here. Theres an occasional griz in WY range and sometimes wolves are seen around Big Piney or Boulder out in the desert. Once you get closer to the Hoback they're common. Tons of Griz in Gros Ventre and north end of Winds. There aren't as many encounters as by Cody though.
