Looking for alternative powders for 300 and 7 rum

A few months ago there was a good bit of LRT on the market; however I have not looked lately. When I saw how good it did in my 28 Nosler I grabbed 10lbs of it. I know your 7mm RUM is not a 28 Nosler; however, it should be very close in performance. In 7mm RUM with lighter bullets (150 to 160 grain) LRT might be what you are looking for. If you were closer to me I would give you some to try out before you go buying a good bit. Check out all the load data for your 7mm RUM and see if you can find any loads for LRT or go to Ramshot's website and they might have some there. I can tell you that in my 28 Nosler LRT is the ticket for the lighter bullets. Hope this helps and thanks.

I bought 3 pds. of LRT but haven't tried it in anything yet. I haven't seen it here lately. See lots of H1000 and Retumbo. I had to make myself stop buying Retumbo after I found out I was up to 32 pds.. I'm stocked well with H1000, N570, N565. Another powder I haven't tried that I got 3 pds. of is the Staball HD. I use a lot of RL26 in 300 WM, 6.5 PRC and 257 Weatherby. I just broke into my 8 pounder. I've never tried RL26 in my 300 RUM or 7 Rem mag. The LRT I'm anxious to try in all. I haven't seen RL26 anywhere in 4 years. Haven't seen RL23 in over 2 years. Almost out of it. Worked great in 6.5 PRC.

WC867 surplus might work for you if you're looking for another powder - I have come across 8lb jugs here and there on the web. Otherwise I suggest the H100 as well.
 
I like Retumbo in the 300 RUM. I get excellent velocity and accuracy using it. I personally consider it the "go to" powder for the 300 RUM.

I don't have any experience with the 7 RUM, but would start with Retumbo in that one as well.

Alternate powders for consideration would be StaBall HD, H1000, the new Grand powder, and if you can find it IMR8133 (discontinued).
 
I think everyone this far has pretty much covered it. US869 is killer in 7RUM and it burns cooler to help save on that throat But Retumbo is killer in both. If you were closer I'd give you my last lb of RL25 as I'm not using it. I was gonna mention StaBall HD but a couple already have and the 7RUM is labeled on the bottle as one of the cartridges it is well suited for.

About 3 months ago I saw an 8 pounder and two 1 pds. of RL25 at a place I go. Was surprised. I don't use RL25 anymore. Few days ago that same place had a new case of Retumbo and H1000. I don't need anymore of either but notice it went from $43.00 to $51.00 since last bought there about 3 months ago. LRT , Magnum and Staball HD were $39.00 🥹 I've seen 7828 there often. A lot of others. Like others have said, I think Retumbo was made for the 300 RUM.

LRT,or the new Winchester powder.can't think of its name right now.H1000 is good but in my 338LM with 300 grain bergers I'm getting 2900 and some change. That's fast,no pressure signs. H1000 just doesn't have the speed I'm after shooting ELR.

I commented earlier on using LRT for 150 grain bullets in my 28 Nosler. I noticed where you commented about StaBall HD. I also have two 6.5 PRC's (that I love by the way) and I have been looking for a substitute for RL26 since it is non-existent. I've tried many, many different powders--including StaBall HD. The StaBall HD metered perfectly; however, with my 24" barrels it was the slowest in all my tests. I just ran out of barrel and case to be able to get enough of it to match the speeds of the other powders I tested. The highest velocities I got were from PP4000MR; however, I had pressure issues. So far, my best results in the 6.5 PRC have come from VV N565 in terms of velocity and group size. Based on my data, it seems that VV N565 is as close to RL26 as you can get. I realize this post is about powder options for 300 RUM and 7mm RUM; however, I am curious about what kind of performance you got with the StaBall HD in 6.5 PRC. Thanks

I haven't used the Staball HD in anything yet. My 6.5 PRC has a 24 in. barrel also. I also have a 27 in. MGM Encore barrel in 6.5 PRC. Good to know about speed. Definitely not for 300 RUM then ! I want try the LRT. I have a lot of N565. The last RL26 I saw was 4 years ago. Can't find RL23 either. I worked good in 6.5 PRC. I've never tried it in 300 RUM.

I got all my RL26 after Covid so in like '21 &'22 and RL23 in '22 & '23
