Hello,
I have received a Jim Shockey Gen II shooting stick. I ordered Gen III. In taking it out to practice with it, I noted these deficiencies: legs do not drop uniformally here in the high desert where dust is a reality. Legs tend to "skate" when they contact shale rock surfaces, which is all over in the Rockies in this area. The pistol grip itself, while panning laterally, also rocks back and forth, making aiming shots very difficult at longer ranges. In the seated position with the legs at 60 degrees etc. there is so much flex to the legs that using this device for a steady shot in this position is impossible.
No item is perfect, but the combination of frustrations I have detailed leaves me wondering about actually using this stick in the field. Is the Gen III better for the deficiencies I have mentioned?

Gen 3s haven't been to bad for me, but do agree the rocking back and fourth is a pain (gfs uses them more then I do) I have the swagger bipod I use mostly though

Yep, trigger sticks went downhill after Gen 1. If your handy and have a mig welder around you might be able to build up the top housing to narrow up the leg stance and reduce the side to side wobble, but that'd be a pricy mess up if you burnt it out, and the steel is thin. I've moved to BogPod.

I have some predator snipe stix that I have used for years. Sucks they no longer make them. I recently bought the swagger and for predator hunting it is a game changer. No more packing extra stuff like shooting sticks. The different shooting positions you can get with them are awesome.

I've been using a swagger since they cane out i like it but it is a bit heavy. I just ordered the qd version of the swagger to mount to pic rail
