Looking to buy new scope for my rifle. Rifle is a Ruger no. 1 in 6.5x55 with a 28" Douglas barrel in Light Palma contour, 1:8 twist. My version of Quigley Down Under! Current scope is Swarovski Z5 3.5-18x44 BT 4W. Love the scope, just can't reach out far enough.

I'm stuck trying to make this scope a do it all. And keep it light.

Things I like:
Reticle for low light shooting ( My Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 SFP with Rapid Z reticle is great. Very dark and distinct. Can easily pick up in moonlight without illumination). Busted many hogs with this one. Even like the old reticle on Japanese Tasco Titan 3-12x52. Dark etched. Bold.

illumination in floating cross or dot. I like my accupoint on my 6.8 3-9x40 green Mil-dot. Busted many hogs!! And I don't like the controls for illumination on eye piece that stick out.

SFP ... is all I know. Can do FFP with right illumination.

Value Choices.
1. Sightron Siii 6-24x50 Zero Stop SFP MOA-2 reticle non illuminated. 24oz. How viable is reticle at low light? In the lead if I stay under 800.00
2. Trijicon TR23 Accupoint 5-20x50 Green Mil-dot. 26oz. Not a lot of reviews. Not sure of turret and tracking.
3. Vortex PST Gen ii 5-25x50. 31oz. Not a big fan of illuminated reticle.

4. Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 MOAR SFP reticle. 30oz. Love the illuminated cross reticle. 1000-1200 ish. Would like more magnification.

5. Vortex Razor HD AMG 6-24x50 FFP EBR-7B MOA Riflescope RZR-AMG-4. 28.8oz. 1800-2000ish used.
6.
Swarovski Optik Rifle Scope X5 3.5-18x50 P 1/4 MOA L Reticle 4WX. 2000-2200ish used. 28oz. In the lead if I spend 2000 (limit).
7. NX8™ 2.5-20X50 F1. Not a fan moar F1 illuminated reticle. 28.3oz.

8. Any others I might need to look at?

1...2...3... Go!

I recently put the SIII Sightron (8-32x56)on my rifle (6.5cm) and took a mule deer just over 500 yards at last light a little over a week ago. I was a little worried about the moa-2 reticle myself on hunting applications, it worked perfectly. Buddy and I took 3 deer and 2 antelope last week with it and no complaints. Scope tracks excellent, great glass and priced in my range. Able to maintain a pretty consistant .5 moa to 800 yards with it now. I trust it more than my PST II 5-25x50.

Awesome!! Thanks for the insight! Any issues during first or last shooting light?

I'll be honest, I have looked through brighter scopes, but they are double the price. Hardly worth it to me, clarity was more than sufficient in low light. Mechanically, they are excellent. Tracking/returning to zero is my main concern.

I agree with davewilson, 18x should get you out there aways. Most of my 800 yard shooting is done at around 16x.

With the BT in the Z5 there just isn't enough elevation adjustment to get me out much further than 700yds. Wanting to go to 30mm tube with more elevation adjustment and tactical style turrets.

i'm wondering what you mean, just can't reach out far enough. are you saying 18X isn't enough? how far do you want to shoot?

The s3 isn't the very best in low light, but I'd still recommend it. They're good scopes.
Your bottom 3 are really jumping up in quality and price, but the little extra performance costs
