Vx3i 6.5-20x40 vs Vortex Viper

Looking at buying a vx3i 6.5-20x40. $700. But just wondering if it's worth it over a vortex viper 6.5-20 for $470 or even a Burris fulfield 6.5-20? I hear good things about the vx3i's but was just looking for a few opinions on glass quality comparison.

Side by side, no comparison on the glass. VX3i FTW.

I bought the same vortex. It is nice but have nothing to compare it to. I bought it for a 22/250. I am getting the leupold for my 7mm mag.

Are you sure you need 20x? If you could do the job with 15x max you could get a VX-5HD instead of the 3i for $700. The VX-5 is a huge step up. Both the VX5 and the 3i are upgrades compared to that particular model of Vortex.

What is your cartridge and intended game and ranges?
A carry rifle or a big rig off a bipod?

Will be on my 7mm mag for Elk. Found a deal with my discount on the 6.5-20 VX-3i so I figured I could not go wrong.

I have a vx 3i 6.5-20 LRP, vx 3i 4.5-14, and the vx 5hd 3-15. The 5 HD is in 44 mm and the rest are 50 mm and IMO it is really difficult to tell much of a difference in glass between them. The LRP and the 5 HD are miles ahead when it comes to the turrets, the regular 3i really lacks in the turret feel and features. I cannot speak on the vortex as I only have looked through them in a store. I would not hesitate to purchase a vx 5 or the LRP.

I went with the vx3i. It is for a cz455 varmint. Will prolly eventually put a lilja on it. Anyway I am happy with the glass. However is does not focus down past 50yd or so. Also the focus does not have yardage markers. Which for me is fine. Its just a range plinker that I shoot at 50 or 100yds.

Great scope! I have several and love them. I tend to use them on long range shooting rigs only. I like the 1" tubes on carry guns. In my part of the world we have a lot of timber in elk country an for me the 6.5 is just bit too much. My 7 RM elk rig wears a 4.5-14 VX3. If your elk country is more open it will work well. Hard to beat Leupold for rugged reliability. Only ever had one go south and sent it back and quickly repaired.

Following this thread and in similar position needing to purchase a scope for my new 6.5x284. Have always liked Leupold and thought they where the best out there for hunting. I need some solid advice on power, reticle etc as this is my first rifle that I plan on shooting longer ranges. Hunting to 6-700 and plates to 1000.

I have very good used Vortex Viper 6-24 PST FFP EBR-1 MOA Reticle I'll let go for $625 if you're interested.
