    Sheep/Goat Hunt Rifle

While true, I hate when folks mention that. The vast majority could reduce weight both places and be even better. Absolutely no correlation... A 10lb rifle for true mountain hunting is insane. (unless you are one of those that don't need to loose the 10lbs)

Good point Wildrose. Anyone have zero bumped while thrashing through the alder/willow/ ****?

    Packable spotting scope advice

Lots on the table here. I carry a 65mm spotter all over God's creation in Alaska (especially mountains), will not be without it.... Unless I'm closer to the pickup for a bigger one. The Razor 50 is a sweet rig, but doesn't have the zoom i would like. "Spotting Shots" is a pretty loose...

    Turrets and Dust

Hunting in Alaska I come across anything from silt storms in glacial river beds to salt spray on a boat. I have always been under the assumption that open adjustments would be detrimental. True? Perhaps don't know enough about scope construction....

    Backpack - Day, weapon, <$350

I used an older Dana Design, internal frame pack for a long time. You can find steals on them through Craigslist and Ebay.

    Bullet Choice for Elk

Mixed opinion on the bergers out of my 300 wby. Tried the 210 vld this year, while they certainly did the job of killing on mostly perfect shot placement, they absolutely blew apart before hitting bone(I know sort of how they are designed). I'm just worried about how they fair in less than...

    Backpack for a LOOOOONG rifle?

It largely depends on how quick you need the rifle Another stone glacier pack user here in Alaska... Their system is excellent as long as you don't need the rifle quickly. For the last 3 years, I have been using the Kifaru gun bearer even with my looong rigs with success Kick *** pack btw!!!!!

Stone Glacier 5 star Customer Service

I have had very similar experiences. A nod to Kurt for what customer service is about, very refreshing. Fit of pack is paramount for a successful outing and for me, this is the one (I have the 7400 also).

    66 model 70 .300 win mag opinions???

I have a 66ish '06 and is certainly one of my go to guns that will always perform as expected. This is my only push feed to boot. As far as scope and mounting... Where are you talking about? I have hunted moose in alders where I don't need a scope to mountains (sheep country) that may...

    bino harness suggestion

I thought everyone rolls around on the ground hunting?? Maybe I'm doing something wrong... I have the Alaska Guide Creations and attach the binos and range finder with FHF lanyards. Excellent combo

    Loading 30 cal mags

Good point, for some reason there is a misconception that belted cartridges need to be headspaced off of the belt. I don't know where this came from and don't care. Even no need to get comparator kits for hunting applications. Simply screw the sizer down in small increments until the fired...

    Kuiu Icon Pro

I have the KUIU , Kifaru and Stone Glacier as well as older Dana internal packs(among a dozen other "big" packs sold at REI". Dana is tits, Stone glacier is first on the list if heavy packing is in order. Kifaru turned the hiking world an end for low weight and rigidity. Stone Glacier...

    Backcountry shelter

Hmmm... Pretty generic question. I have around 10 different "shelters" for different applications. First question; snakes?

    Which magnification range.

Believe me, you can have too much power! If the gun you are taking for walk happens to chance finding a bear in an alder patch or thicket, you will want the lowest power possible. Also, this is hunting not target practice. Over decades, I have shot elk out to 600yd with a straight 4x old...
