    Alliant Powders

I use a fair amount of RL-15, still seem to shoot my 250 Savage(250/3000 to you purists) a lot, seems to be my trigger pulling rifle I really like to shoot. Well, I stocked up on powder something like 12 years ago and am getting low, I ran across some MR-2000. Almost bought an 8-lb keg, but...

    WSM Wildcats? 350 cal?

I'll look into the 350 Rem Mag, it seems like a shorter belted mag in the pics you show, that's what I was thinking shooting a 200gr bullet, or smaller. Deer don't seem that hard to kill. Years ago I took my 250 Savage to southern Iowa when Iowa had an extra antlerless season open in southern...

    WSM Wildcats? 350 cal?

Thanks guys, might ask a gun smith or 2 about the 358 Sambar. No I won't be doing the work myself, just fire forming brass. Probably just keep about 100 rounds for this. I farm next to a public hunting, and its grown over for cover with no food source, so I get about 40 deer at a time hitting...

    WSM Wildcats? 350 cal?

I'm really thinking of building(actually having barrel put on a Savage rifle) for deer hunting in Iowa. As of now, any 350 Cal or larger rifle is legal for Iowa deer hunting during gun season. Has anyone done something like this, so reamer and dies would be somewhat easier to source? I would...

    117 gr sst for deer

Used them for a few years in a 25 wssm. Worked very well. Good expansion, always exited any whitetail I shot. Would still use but usually just shoot my 7mm. That bullet never failed me and performed extremely well on game.

How are your Vanguard S2 rifles holding up?

I have Howa 1500, but that would be the same as the Vanguard. I have about 3000-3500 rounds on mine. Its a 204 ruger heavy barrel. Never had that problem. Trigger is okay, but seems smoother now(probably at least 1000 dry fires as well). While it doesn't get abused like my hunting...

    25-06--which bullet

I grew up shooting 75gr Hornady hollow pts from a 257 Roberts on prairie dogs. You shot what you had. That bullet perform great, but for what your doing. Why the 75gr V-max would be okay. The 90gr Sierra tipped blitz may be the ticket. I would believe the heaver bullet from the 25-06...

Experience's with 7mm bullets on Elk

I think you are asking a lot for a 7mm to go through both shoulders of an elk. I shoot 162gr SST/ SAUM and it won't do it. I usually try and get a double lung shot. It sounds like your trying to immobilize, not kill the animal. I've found that with a double lung shot with a bullet that opens...

    270 WSM hunting load help

In your application I would use a 150 grain bullet, I have used the SST with good results, or a Nosler BT. Or step down to a 140 Accubond and you should still get all you need. Or a matrix or Berger as well. Use a bullet that YOU are confident in, and you should have good results. There are...

Browning X bolt 25-06 accuracy problems

Nice to see all is working out. Nice buck. Always fond of the quarter bore.

Stick will 7mm WSM or switch to 7mm 08

I would second the 7mm WSM. It will do it all, and you have the stuff. No bolt face change needed(7mm-08). I shoot the 7mm SAUM(no offense taken) and feel this size of cartridge is a great do it all. Really looking forward to the new RL-23 and -26 coming out as well. Make sure you post pics...

.280AI - talk me out of it

I killed my first elk this year with a 7mm SAUM, very close in performance as the 280AI. That's the way to go. You will like less recoil for all your other game. If i hunted elk and moose every year, then I'd most likely go bigger. But once every 3 or 4 years on elk. 7mm is my choice. Here...

Anyone used the Hornady 162gr SST for Elk?

Went on first elk hunt this year. 162gr SST did wonders. It killed elk very dead. Shot through heart and lungs(yes both) was dead but stood there moment because it didn't know it yet.

Best LR bullet...168 Nosler or Berger...

I've found that powder just doesn't make that big of accuracy difference. Some, but some bullets just shoot better in different rifles. Your rifle just may not like the LRAB as much as the std AB. Don't forget about the Hornady A-max or 162 SST. That's what I shoot. Powder wise, some new...
