Enter Me In The Quigley-Ford Scope Contest

I am in the Air Force and about to be stationed in central Texas near Abilene. Are there any good places to hunt nearby and what kind of game is around to hunt? Or would I need to travel further west or north for some good hunting? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

I use the Winchester Combined Technologies Ballistic Silvertip 150gr. I shot lung shot at 436 yards and it works wonders. It was like shrapnel in chest cavity but no damage to meat with lung shot, and core stayed bonded for exit wound.

I am looking for a good club to join or somewhere with good prospects to go hunting. Anyone have places they would recommend? I was a member of a decent club in Port Gibson, MS but the interaction with club members has me looking for other places. Anywhere south of the Jackson area would be nice...

Thank you for all the advice, I think I will try BT for down here being none of my shots will be over 200-300 yards unless I'm on the bayou, then I'll be shooting 600-900 and I'll have AB for when I'm there. I'll try that and see how it goes and adjust from there. Thanks guys!

I know 7mm is enough for bears, but I am curious as to what grain or brand to use. I have never shot anything larger than mule deer and would like to know what to practice with and prepare for. Any advice?

That is a nice one too. These were taken up in Port Gibson, MS. It's hard to find nice white tail down here considering how hunted they are. They just changed the laws for legal bucks so that will help a lot. I hated that 4 pt law they had before, so many young bucks being harvested before...

Got lucky with that one. It was spooked and ran towards the shooting house from across bayou. I couldn't believe how big the g2's were when I went to help my dad load onto the 4-wheeler. It was shot at about 20 yards running up the slope to bayou. This is the average size deer at our club...
