    Bino Recommendation

So my recommendation is to check out Maven. I had a similar question and instead of hunting forums, I went specifically to birdwatching forums to see what the popular choice was. As expected, Swaro was a popular one but I saw Maven mentioned many times in every forum I went to. We did a side...

    First custom rifle questions

Lots of info for you to work through here and not sure I can offer any more. If you want full custom, go for it. I’ve got 4 custom rifles and I’ve built a few myself. Mine don’t shoot as well as the customs. For hunting, they work great, but the limitation for me is distance. If I’m looking at a...

    Labradar help

This is what I have done. I’ve had my lab radar since they were released and have no issues. I set up on a tripod in front of the shooting bench. Arrange it so my muzzle is in front of the unit and to the side. No need for the external trigger.

    My sons first deer

Congrats! My favorite stories of hunting season every year. Nothing better than a father and son/daughter hunt. Nice job!

    7mm-08 barrel length

I agree with the comments about the 7-08 being pretty efficient and consistent. I am running an 18 inch barrel on my 7-08 shooting Berger 150s and getting about 2550 using H4350. I honestly don’t see any advantage in the extra 2 inches unless you just want the barrel a little longer. If you...

    Best Caliber Rifle Elk

So out of 4 pages, the consensus seems to be the 300WM, which is a great rifle and capable for most anything. There is virtually no difference between the 300WSM and the WM with performance, you just might find a heavier projectile in factory ammo offerings for the WM. I’m partial to the WSM’s...

Hunting Rifle: Anyone Else Have No Desire for a Silencer?

I would almost guarantee that a large number of “anti-can” folks are anti because of the tax. I’d bet that if that were to go away, sales of suppressors would increase exponentially.

Hunting Rifle: Anyone Else Have No Desire for a Silencer?

I think the AR platform has its advantages, but I will respect your opinion on that. The way your response is worded is that anyone using a suppressor is also hunting with an AR platform. I have 5 bolt guns that are “hunting rifles” from 16.5” to 26” in length and all are suppressed. Don’t knock...

Cold Bore Shots from Short Barrel

That thread is why I posted in here as well. Curious to see if anyone in a hunting application had noticed something similar, not to have someone tell me what’s wrong, like someone else had suggested earlier. I went searching keeping in mind that if I didn’t find anything, I’d chalk it up to my...

Cold Bore Shots from Short Barrel

The savage my son hunts with was a 20” barrel originally and had 5 in of vertical shift. We cut it down to 16.5” and it went down some. Was concerned the shoulder was messed up when i first got it but It was repeatable and verticle. Spoke to Zak at TBAC and determined that it was good to go...

Cold Bore Shots from Short Barrel

Thanks, I guess there’s always one… Scope is fine, action is bedded and torqued to spec. I know the POI shift on both rifles as well. I know what the groups look like with a clean bore and a group with a fouled barrel, granted I did all of that when it was warm outside. I didn’t know it was a...

Cold Bore Shots from Short Barrel

That’s the plan, just has to get cold. I was hunting in Missouri in mid30’s and I live in Dallas where it was 82 today, so I’ll have to wait a bit. Already have breaks on the rifles as the ultra 7 and 30BA cans screw on over a break.
