    What cartridge?

7MM-08 is perfect for this purpose of use. It has plenty of power for even big deer, based on the 308 case, of course, but with better ballistics. Tons of high-BC great bullet choices, and even though you handload, there are many great factory ammo options as well. There are also many handle...

    35 whelen- Black Bear

I have shot several black bears with the 35 Whelen's little brother - the .358 Winchester, and have used the good 'ole 225gr Sierra Game King BT at around 2450 FPS. Bears ranged from 200-450lbs and this load WRECKS them. Crazy accurate too. The 35 Whelen will just do that much better. Great...

Torn between the 280 ai and the 7mm rem mag

My advice is to plan on buying factory brass (Nosler, in this case,) if you're going the 280 AI and not plan on fire-forming / making your own brass, as that is a double-barrel-wearing exercise and a time consuming process, and one that is very unnecessary, given other great cartridge options...

    "difficult" calibers

6.5 "anything" is just too marginal for elk. I've seen too many wounded with less than optimal shots. Get a 7 magnum or good 300 and you'll be using enough gun.

    338 win mag bear bullet

I hunt black bears and have for years. Most black bears I shoot are 300lbs but aren't a coastal brown. Different animal for sure. Having said that, I have had great results with my simple .358 Win using a 225gr Sierra Game King in the vitals. They die quick. I have also used my .338 Win Mag with...

    6.5 - 2900 ft/s most efficiently?

Here's my $.02 on the topic. I have a .260 Rem and a 6.5-284. I run my .260 at 2840 FPS with 140 Berger Hybrid VLDs in a 24" barrel. I get exactly 100 FPS more out of my 6.5-284 in the same barrel length. Having said that, I pretty much always reach for my good 'ole .260 Rem. Less powder, more...

    Need Advice on a Rifle

Here's my $.02. I have multiple custom rifles that I have had built by very reputable smiths, and have had great results with all of them - after proper load development. I also have several dead-stock factory rifles that shoot crazy good groups - after proper load development - and even in some...

Nosler LR Accubonds: BC testing results

I have purchased a few hundred of the Nosler 142 ABLR's in 6.5 MM for potential go-to use in my .260 Rem, and have made significant progress working up loads for the same. I have been using the excellent 140 Berger Hybrid VLD's with good success but am looking to improve bullet-to-bullet BC...
