This was interesting to see everyones different take on what is a relatively simple question for those who may have done it.
Firstly the recoil of a 300Wby is just fine without a brake, I have shot enough 338Win, 375H&H, 458Win & 460Wby to be able to manage recoil, however for load development...
That's a great looking round, sexy belt ;) Recoil is fine as the Mark V has that squishy recoil pad, comes back fast though. Bought a Quadramax brake the other day for bench work. More so just wanting to have a play with something else for a bit, was even thinking 264WinMag.
Not the most recoil just fast in a light rifle. That 458 off a bench lets you know when to hang on.
Did the same with a 460Wby, just ugly but I was younger.
Cheers
Kind of the same idea, really like my 300Wby and being an ULW it's a great all day carry when hunting. Looking to hunt Sambar deer (elk size) next year and I will take the 300Wby for sure.
I am happy with the 300Wby and the recoil is fine but anyone that says it is light in a light rifle is lying, bought a brake recently mostly for load development. I was toying with the PRC idea more so just playing around than anything else. It is either going to be a barrel in my Mark V or in...
Hi
I have a Mark V ULW currently chambered in 300Wby, excellent shooter overall and un-braked kicks like a mule at 3.5kg scoped.
I was wondering if the Mark V action feeds the 6.5mm PRC or 7mm PRC cases without having to alter the action. I do not wish to alter the rifle other than a barrel and...
Interesting this thread re-surfaced, I initially had hopes and shot a decent ladder test in my 25-06 Tikka Supervarmint but then couldn't get bullets in Australia. Seeing complete bullet failure with the 220gr 30 caliber ELD-X in my 300Win on light feral goats I figured I may as well shoot...
Never had belt problems other than when I put weight on. Had 7Rem, 300Win and 300Wby, all work just aren't the latest but you can still buy cases for them 50 plus years on. I run full length magnum actions so no drama there either.
Hi all
I have recently purchased a Mark V Ultra Light Weight chambered in 300Wby, I have a 300Win that I have loaded for a fair while and always used CCI250 primers lighting AR2225 (retumbo) or AR2217 (H1000).
In Australia the chances of getting primers now is next to impossible and magnum...
I anneal when I start to see a difference of gas bleed on the outside of the case necks and this is of course dependent on brands as well as calibers.
I load for accuracy however I am not a beach rest shooter so I am annealing for case life first and if I achieve better accuracy that's a bonus...
H1000 and Retumbo are made in Australia by ADI and are AR2217 and AR2225 respectively as are Varget, H4350, H4831, H4895 and many others, also not available here in Australia at present either. See attachment straight from the ADI website.
I have been shooting a 24" stainless 270w Rem 700BDL for the past 23 years as my general purpose hunting rifle. In that time it has accounted for a lot of game, pigs, deer, feral goats and even foxes (too much gun). It's shot over 2000 rounds, been shot hot with hot handloads and will still...
