If you want wounded elk, use eldm bullets. Far better choice is the 212 grain eldx. Hornady has a great podcast about using match bullets for hunting. Recipe for disaster.
Eldm is not a big game bullet and a recipe for disaster. Virtually no penetration if bones are encountered. This comes from personal experience on big bulls. ELDX is a great big game bullet. It does exactly what it was designed to do.
I’ve heard great reports on ELD-X. Starting work ups on the 212ELD-X 300PRC. So far it looks promising for accuracy. Haven’t killed any bug game yet with it. I’ve used 143 ELD-X in 6.5 PRC. Great deer bullet. Haven’t shot any other bug game yet lwith it yet.
thanks for your input;however I’ll use something other than eldm. Bullet placement is very important, but when that doesn’t work it’s time to go a different direction. That’s been my experience
boiler room is great if you don’t hit a rib. that’s what I was dealing with. Sounds like you’ve had great results with ELD-Ms. Personally, I won’t shoot another one at big elk. Been there, done that.
muzzle velocity. animals taken from 125 yards to 880 yards. Same results at all ranges. Impact with bone and no expansion. I supposed with no bone impact the ELD-M might be fine, but who has time to figure that out in a hunting situation.
