Let's see your Varmint rifles !

Do you mind telling me what your load is? I've got a Vangard that may NEED some varmint action and I have lots of the VMax bullets for my Ackley which is currently out of commission.

Let's see your Varmint rifles !

I picked this Sako-barreled Remington 03-A3 built by Tenn benchrest rifle builder HW Creighton few years ago. It was in rough shape and needed a stock refinishing, as well as a parkerizing job. I didn't know his name when I bought the rifle, but when I got this as my first group on paper...

    SOLD/EXPIRED Trade is pending

WTT Bushnell 3200 10x Mil-Dot & Turrets (1/4 MOA adjustments) for Burris FFII 3-9x40mm or similar Leupold. I've had this scope mounted on one rifle (and still do) and I don't believe there are rings marks. I'd be happy to pull it and exchange pics w/ anyone seriously interested in working...

    My Recent Panda Hunt

I know that there are a lot of do-gooders stateside who might object to such a trophy, but I've never seen a mount and thought it'd make for a unique hunt/trophy. I wondered what cartridge one should choose? They look harmless and cute, but won't they gnaw your arm off like a twig of bamboo if...

    Monometals & the 257 Roy

Went out for a 4th trip w/ the Roy last night. I'd reported previously about my experimentation w/ 100 gr tipped monometals and that continued. Here is the target I started last time. These are all 100 gr TTSXs w/ RL22. The center group is the one I ran last time @ 70 gr, and that charge...

    Painted my Vangard Stock

Thanks Dr. Vette! The original owner actually bedded & free-floated the barreled action in the stock. I don't know what he used, but it seems to have worked well. I've never used Devcon, but have found that Marine Tex works well if I rough up the surface while removing material. I even...

    Nice rifle, where's the ammo

If you have fired cases Lee will make you a custom 3 die set (FLS, Collet Neck Sizer, & Seater) for like $80? A heckofa lot cheaper than other companies, the Collet Neck Sizer is simply fantastic, and I've never found much functional difference between their stuff and other companies that charge...

    Lee collet neck die

+1. I like to run a case through the die, turn 1/4 and run it again. Not necessary, but ensures the neck tension I like. You'll be amazed at how much longer cases last when you're running this die vs. FLS'n or even neck sizing with an expander button. Good luck w/ the new neck sizer, efw

    Painted my Vangard Stock

I traded into a Vangard chambered to 257 Roy recently. I mounted a Bushnell 3200 10x 40mm w/ mil dots & turrets in Talley LWs on it. I'm likely going to get a new scope for it at some point, but the 10x seems to be shooting fine and I'm broke so no hurry. The thing shoots like a house afire...

    Lovin' Me Some Quartabore Action!!!!!!

Here I am shooting the Roy: but I'm painting the *** stock this weekend, and going to replace it w/ this: PRAIRIE HUNTER WEATHERBY VANGUARD and, based upon the sweet performance, I'll likely have to have it cerakoted sometime... FWIW, here are the results I got from the 117...

    Flinching because of muzzle breaks

I can honestly say that I react more to muzzle blast than I do recoil. Of course that can be hard to prove cuz they often go together, but I have noticed that I shoot a bit better from an uncovered shooting position where blast is disbursed. I suppose that live targets dictate differently...

    Lovin' Me Some Quartabore Action!!!!!!

I've actually longed for a nice lightweight standard Bob. Talk about easy on young shooters! That Roy is about as overbore as I can imagine being worthwhile in the quarterbore, but I gotta imagine a 8 RM necked to .25 cal w/ a 28-30" barrel would make those 100 gr monometals capable of...
