    Priorities

I’m sick of hearing about new whiz-bang calibers/loads/ammo/rifles etc. How about the ammunition and firearms industry devote all of their “genius” to getting ammo and other mundane resources to us. I helped a friend, who came from a gun hating culture, to see the light and purchase a handgun...

New Owner of Remington Arms Talks of its FUTURE

This has mostly been said, but bears repeating: Remington will need to buck the current trends. Chasing the market with Fad Guns or Fad Calibers is a long term loser. Others have saturated that segment. Go back to a basic lineup of carefully produced bolt guns, and the more successful and iconic...

    Disappointed in non-resident hunters

Biggest problem with this and other similar issues: Once upon at time, people (even crummy people) recognized that not being a dirtbag was a good thing. Most people tried to bring up their kids that way. Then, during the mid-20th century, people gave up and just sort of hoped the kids wouldn’t...

How do the factories load "universal" high performance cartridges??

I suspect that anytime a reloading formula is published, there is someone involved who understands tort law. This is addressed by going to the lowest common denominator i.e. the most reckless, careless, or just plain human person who might be using that load. Now there’s a can of worms. Most...

cleaning barrel with a muzzle break

Just read the post from J E Custom. So it is a thing. Good to know.

cleaning barrel with a muzzle break

That’s what I thought. I don’t have a bore scope to verify, but there may be something about the bore/crown that was causing it to throw “shavings”(?) into the brake, affecting the round as it exited? This is all very speculative. Perhaps the bore itself was left with fouling from my previous...

cleaning barrel with a muzzle break

I used Wipe-Out foaming cleaner. Restored a T/C Hunter Bbl Contender from 3” to 1.5” groups at 100yd. The amount of copper in the brake was insane, but once I got the crown/brake clean it was all good.

supporter fiction v facts: Ruger v Tikka

Same old story: “What do you need?” vs. “What do you want?” A nicer car doesn’t make you a better driver.

300wm military brass-What's up with this?

If you size a chamber to headspace on the shoulder instead of the belt, wouldn’t that be inherently dangerous? At least setting yourself up to have the case separate in the unsupported area just forward of the belt? Perhaps, with hot loads, to have the ejector (eventually) pull the rim/head off...

Precision Micrometer die sets - your recommendations

Having had to scrape by for years due to someone else’s insanity with “our” money, I wonder if he means “Those who have been more financially responsible.”

    Favorite bedding compounds

Acraglas gel has always worked for me. Never found a reason to switch. Only ever did my own rifles, so I only ever cared how they shot.

    Epstein Didn’t Kill Himself

How TOTALLY inappropriate. They didn’t shoot him, they hanged him. 😆 I would say I wish I knew what he knew, but then I would have ended up hanging next to him.

Has the 30-06 died along with the .308 ???

30-06 is my go to, for most of my hunting, here in Eastern woods and swamps. Granted, it has a definite performance envelope. It is a bit much for varmints, a bit light for massive creatures. For a small segment of hunters, it really does kick too hard. For an even smaller percentage, it doesn’t...

School me on how to evaluate the quality of rifle scope glass

One factor, which you sometimes hear, is time. Scopes, and eyesight, deteriorate over time, My 30 year old Burris Fullfield, which sits atop my primary deer rifle, was a great scope. It still performs more than well enough for the hunting I do. Recently I’ve noticed it’s not as clear as it used...

Fate of a new rimfire cartridge?

Does seem like we’re reinventing the wheel. Maybe that’s why Winchester went with the .17.
