Couldn't believe it when I read this post. I have these four chamberings for the purposes mentioned.
I have three 223's, a heavy barreled 700 with a custom 12" twist King barrel, a Sako L461 hunter with a 12" twist Gaillard barrel and a Mini-14.
I have a Kimber Montana in 243 with a 2.5-8...
I wouldn't tear those rifles apart..never,...ever.
Old factory M70 Target models are very hard to find.
Buy another Pre'64 in a sporter or a Fwt .........
Just this morning I picked up a really nice 1963 Fwt in 308 for $600,...they are out there.
Today we chronyed a 280AI that my son had built a few months ago. Didn't have time to play with it much before the hunting season.
140 TTSX's run from 3312 to 3333 fps over at least 20 rounds. This with Rel22 in a 24" long 9" twist Shilen #2 barrel.
Well, I bought one last week and shot it today. Went out to the garage this AM with a coffee to do some reloading and discovered that unbeknownst to me my oldest son had loaded the remainder of our 168 Match Kings for his Savage and a trip out to the farm,...so, all I had in 30 cal were hunting...
These are all the buzz on the sniper/tactical forums.
Anyone here have one?
Seriously considering another heavy barrel 308,..had a 700PSS a few years ago and miss it.
Last year I came across an interesting Rem 700 in 7 Rem Mag.
It's an ADL/FS, has a grey painted factory installed Brown Precision stock.
This thing is VERY accurate with a 150 gr Ballistic Tip and 63 grs of H4350 at 3100 fps.
I shot it on paper last October and again today.
Five groups...
I found a nearly new 700PSS stock and bolted the SPS-V 7-08 into it tonite.
I got from a friend a NF 40MOA base and 30mm rings..but I don't like the way my LR/T 4.5-14X40 sits...its' too high with about a 3/8" gap under the front bell....and, do I really need a 40 MOA base to shoot this rifle...
At a gunshow last weekend I picked up a NIB 700 SPS Varmint in 7mm-08.
I put it into the HS stock from my 223VS for now....but I might get a McMillan A3 for it. I have a Leupold 4.5-14X LR/T on it....
I hope to get a 160/168 up near 2700 from the 26" tube....
What do you think about this rig...
well,...I can't say I've forgotten the mag box on the bench but I've assembled a blind mag bolt action more than once with the spring and follower on the bench...:-)...they don't feed well that way either...:-0
I've owned a couple TRG-S rifles, currently have one in 300 Win Mag and I've checked out a few more. I think all you'd have to do is open up the bolt face, extractor should work, and get a magazine for the 30-378. They are available online.
