First elk hunt. Leaning toward Tikka

I took a gamble and set up my dies off the once fired brass I had. I forgot I had some 160 Sierra Gamekings in the cabinet. There were 26 left, so I loaded them up yesterday and went shooting with a buddy. The box of factory remington 150’s were 2” off to the left at 100, but the elevation was...

Yes, I know you’ve all seen a Tikka before, but... LGS called yesterday to tell me it had arrived. I did not plan on picking it up until after the 10th so that it would go on next month’s credit card statement, but I had to make a trip close by the shop to pick up my sons mountain bike...

I’ll take that into consideration. All but a few of mine wear Leupold or Redfield revolution scopes.

Budget is 1k for an optic. I’m wide open for suggestions. I’ve always wanted a Trijicon. Maybe this is the time. I’m looking at B&C stocks also.

I ended up putting a deposit on the Tikka. It’ll be here in 10-14 days. If I can get close to Nosler load data with the 175 AB LR and the bullet stabilizes, I’m okay with Saami OAL.

I stopped at a small gun shop today. All they had was a blued tikka t3x 30-06. They quoted $770 for a stainless, which is not bad.

First elk hunt. Leaning toward Tikka

The outfitter said that his average client is in their 60's and often have health limitations. I'll be 45 next year when I go. Because of this, they are talking about setting up a wall tent for part of the hunt and doing some more remote hunting, hence my desire to keep the rifle light. I...

First elk hunt. Leaning toward Tikka

My savage Lwh 30-06 tips the scales at 6 pounds, 11 ounces with a Leupold VX-3 3-9x40 scope and weaver steel rings. I can’t imagine a huge difference with a 7mm mag as far as recoil. Perhaps I have this whole thing backwards. I should probably get an upgraded optic first for my 116 and do...

I like the way you think! That‘s the kind of thinking that filled my safe in a hurry. I have room for 1-2 more though. 🤔

I also have a savage 116 in 30-06 that I rarely ever use. Never shot anything with it. Another option would be to swap out the bolt face and screw a new custom barrel on it. I bought it with the intention of doing a barrel swap some day The lightweight stock options really start to open up...

First elk hunt. Leaning toward Tikka

My current go to rifle is a savage 111 lightweight hunter in 30-06 and I even with stout loads it’s not a problem.

2021. Montana elk and mule deer combo. I don’t own a magnum. I figured I’d take my 30-06 with 168gr Nosler Accubond and limit my shots to 400 yards. A call to the outfitter this week may have changed my mind. He’s pushing the 300wm as his go to and the 7mm RM as a second choice. Now don’t...

    Hornady cartridge comparator review

My new set arrived Friday. I can't believe I waited so long to buy them. I have been fighting accuracy issues with a couple of rifles and it's no wonder. Some of my 30-06 cases differed as much as .007". I posted here last year that some of my brass was hard to chamber. I have now...

Any experience reloading with PRVI brass?

I have used it in 7mm-08 and I would say it compares to the Federal and Remington Brass that I have used.
