Digging up an old thread, but given the advances in slugs the last few years, what are your preferences of 12 vs 20 ? I may be going to IL next season , so need to start thinking about this.

I'm looking to get a new 300 WM to hunt elk in CO. Trying to decide between a Weatherby Backcountry and a Remington 700. I know it's like Ford vs Chevy, but I'd appreciate some opinions.

I've been thinking about picking up one in 280 AI ? I've read some reviews, but does anyone have personal experience ?

I'd make sure crossbows are legal in the state where you want to hunt.

I have three Jackson Hunters : 260, 280, 308. I use the 260 here for whitetail, the 280 for mulies and elk, and carry the 308 as a backup. Looking for a reason to buy a fourth !'

Many whitetails have fallen to the Federal Premium Vital Shock 140's.

If it's a morning hunt, not during the rut, I'll usually shoot does when i see them, the bucks are usually back on the bed. For an evening hunt, I've watched does in a field for 1 1/2 hours. Down here most of our bucks show in the last 30 minutes of shooting light.

Does anyone know if the Federal MSR rounds are safe to shoot in the 700?

How does the recoil on the 28 compare to the 280 and 7 Mag?

I have a chance at a good deal on a Remington 700 in 6.8, 22" barrel. I'm thinking it might be a good whitetail rifle for my daughter. Anyone have an idea of the effective hunting range out of that length barrel?

One of the biggest deer I saw at the processor this year was bagged one evening buy a guy who went straight to the stand from his job as an excavator operator. His work jacket was blue, even had his name embroidered on it. He had so much diesel on his boots you could smell him 10 feet away...
