I suggest that the silhouette of the long range backpacker, with the elk antlers on his back, simply would not work here.Is that how you pack game heads in open country? This surprises me.

Not sure where you're going with this ... how else would you pack elk antlers other than on your back?

You talking about a logo or image to represent a long-range specific backpack hunter?

Antlers down , in brushy the brushy western mountains...or in little pieces

Oh gotcha, so you're talking about the position on your back. I think packing antlers in the mountains is going to be a quick lesson in what works and what doesn't. Not gonna get far in thick country if the antlers are pointed the wrong direction and catch every little twig and bush.

Carrying a big set of antlers always makes me think how amazing those bulls are that do it so quietly through thick gamble oaks and dark timber.

Were onto something big Tony .... the all new elk-antler packing-helmet. Now everybody is gonna strap their bull antlers to this new helmet to pack them out. lol :D

Tony,
My bad. I just looked at the pic. I dont think it would work just about any place except the plains. LOL

If you hunt public land it might be smart to pack them down. To many people shoot at less than the sight of big antlers pointing the correct (up) direction. Its your decision in the end I guess

Never thought of it as a safety issue, but it is..If they can mistake a canoe for a moose...imagine the possibilities here.

Definitely some safety issues any time you hunt on public land. Try and idiot proof something and they just make a better idiot. Any time I pack elk I turn the antlers into a Christmas tree of orange tape.

Unless of course. ..you are an idiot savant. This chat creates some interesting images for me.Like I wonder how my mule would look with 6 spike elk antlers carried like the silhouette. Have a interesting day guys/gals.

I even like the idea of deer antlers sticking up let alone elk antlers. Not so bad during archery season I guess but during rifle season the last thing I want to do is look like an elk walking through brush.
