Will be opting for an OTC either sex archery elk hunt this year, and looking at unit 70.
Will be my first time in this unit, have scoured maps and usual google earth.
Trying to decide if going first week of season, but being Memorial day, was thinking it would be crazy. ML opens 3rd week or so, concurrent with archery so there will be even more pressure then.

Any info from those of you that have hunted this unit would be appreciated.

Thanks
Bob

Ive hunted 70 for quite a few years now and will be up there the whole month of September as our party has archery and muzzleloader tags and 2 rifle bear tags. What exactly are you wanting to know?

My ranch is in unit 70 so I can offer some advice. It depends what you are looking for, your hunting style, etc. Lots of different variables to consider when deciding what week during archery season to hunt. Let me know what you are looking for and I can try to help you out.

Although I have not hunted in Unit 70, my own experience from archery hunting over the Memorial day weekend, is that the elk are not fully in the rut yet. I'm sure lots of guys are successful, and it looks like Rocking R Ranch could pass along the most useful info relating to unit 70.

I always hunt the OTC either sex archery tag, but I wait for the last 10-12 days of the season. I hunt the Western slope, so maybe the herds start the rut differently there, but that has worked out the best for me over the years.
