US forest issues kill order for feral cows in New Mexico

Well the going rate per hour for hunting guide in the US

Wages run from..14 - 22 per hour plus potential bonuses there is some variation of course.

US Beef processor wage per hour $15.53 on average experience matters.

If you just do the hours, you spend a mountain of money, then fuel, licenses, food in the tummy cost it out like a project for bid.

It's not cheap, when you break down the costs and do an honest assessment.

Total cost....of the entire hunt....soup to nuts...versus the amount of meat in the freezer...then look at the amount of groceries you could buy.

Yes, we enjoy hunting, but when you want to discuss how money is spent, pet projects and personal likes and wants have no bearing on the bottom line. That is how companies go out of business.

I enjoy farming/ranching but to stay viable I have to account for everything and that includes my hours and how much it would cost, to pay someone to do my job, so I get a wage, just like everyone else here.

So time processing is money spent, plain and simple, time hunting is money spent, you could be at work making more money than you get paid for holiday pay.

So you have to look at total cost.
I'm retired I don't charge myself anything! I have my own processing shop as well.

Feral animals on federal land. May be worth a few phone calls to NM fish and game and Gila wilderness office. Looks like NM is getting some weather, would be a good time to get some of that free beef.

But that is the discussion and the time and then how hunting isn't cost effective...time is money...even if you don't want to assign a value to it....So the choice by the Government was cost effective... because when honestly broken down the value for the buck was there...

What's it to ya, if some want/willing to go shoot bovine. It's their dime, their time. If the govement hires shooters and worly birds, it's on the taxpayer's dime, well dollars. Bet the hired shooters don't have to have a permit, why should the hunters. There's a lot can be said about the govement ways.

So a programme that may have cost a few hundred thousand got results or a permit system that probably wouldn't have worked cost the state taxpayer millions trying to administer it and then have to go the professional culling route anyway after they admit it didn't work, that would be a better choice?

Isn't that the very Government inadequacy that everyone complains about now?

Please make up your mind, seriously.

The wacko environmentalist demand cattle removed from the Gila by the same government that sold the grazing permits to the rancher in the first place. This 850 sq mile area has about 150 cows on it, THE CATTLE ARE NOT DESTROYING THE GILA RIVER any more than the deer and elk. This area has been grazed since the 1800's. Part of the reason there are a quarter million dollars of cattle there is because the Against Service (they are NOT for us!) pulled the permits from ranchers due to a few pin heads who protested for the removal while we were at our jobs working. The communist, socialist ba$yards are winning and we are letting them… It's a sad time in our history.
I'm not sure but it appears to me that the environmentalists are actually bad for the environment. Have they ever done anything that actually helped the environment?
