Hodgdon and Vista outdoors monopolized the powder market and sent prices soaring. I left them both and never going back. Theyre powders are no longer in my cabinet and are for sale as of today. 20# are already gone. I shoot smokeless in my Savage 10ML2
If you hadn't said it I was going to. Vista Outdoors is the monopoly that's driving these prices to the moon!

Similarly, I walked into the LGS Tuesday and found CCI LR primers for $169.99/1m. Standard mind you not mags.

I used to joke with my wife about all my supplies and how after the apocalypse primers and 22 bullets would be a dollar a piece and powder would be sold by the ounce or even grams. Now, it's not so funny.

If you think prices are high now, just wait till the BRICS nations agree on the new medium of exchange and completely move away from the dollar. They are set to discuss this next week and to vote on new members. The dollar is devaluing.

What are using now? It's hard to avoid these behemoths. It looks like the other companies are jumping on the band wagon as well. The only way it is coming down in price is if it sits on shelves and warehouses for a while. Competition is the answer, but barriers to entry are tough to overcome.
One of the Pyrodex or 777

It is imported from Canada, which has attributed to the shortage and therefore the cost increase. Hodgdon employee told me it would be 2024 before there was enough to satisfy the demand. I have about 2 jugs left, should be just enough.

The value of anything is defined by what people are willing to pay. I shoot a 45 cal CVA Paramount and the 45 Cal ELR Powerbelt. With Blackhorn 209 I can achieve 2250 fps and 2.5" groups at 300 yards. No other powders come close. So to me, because I only hunt with this rifle when I draw a coveted tag, the price of BH209 is an insignificant fraction of the cost of that type of hunt.
But because of my mentality about laying in stores of components that I plan to use, I have a 5-10 year supply on hand. If I didn't I would pay the current price and not worry about it. And I work for a competitor powder manufacturer.

If everyone would quit buying and stockpiling for the apocalypse, then maybe prices would correct? I have reloading components that I have had for countless years. I have not bought a pound of powder or primers since the price gouging started. Mind you that I don't shoot nowhere near as much as I once did. I don't have the finacial ability to compete with the insane prices asked today! Shooting ranges have now got in on the act charging ridiculous memberships and fees to shoot at their facilities. Why not, if someone is willing to pay $16.90 for a hundred primers $50.00 for a lb of powder, $120.00 for 100 pieces of brass and $50.00 for 100 bullets, they must have money to pay pay pay the range.

Local range where I shoot raised their yearly fee by 50%. Instituted and initiation fee of 100% of first year dues. So a new member is paying 150% more and they are flocking in! Mostly all young adults with pockets full of money.

My question is, where is all the money coming from?
