Hello from Alabama

I was hunting a hay field in Banks Alabama. I could take up to a 550ish yard shot. Funny thing about hunting deer at that distance is they don't mind if you talk on the phone.

Oh yeah, not saying it can`t happen, but I`d wager those distances are the exception in the deep South. My experience has been that 200 yards qualifies as a long distance shot. A galaxy apart from Montana, Wyoming, etc., etc. !

I am new to the forum and somewhat new to long range hunting. I first started shooting out past 100 yards about 6 years ago, got into reloading and built my first rifle 3 years ago. I took a doe with it at 387 yards.

The rifle was a K29 Mauser action, Boyds stock, Green Mountain barrel, Bold Trigger, and a cheap Bushnell Nitro with mil holdover reticle. This was the first and only gun I have cut a barrel and chambered myself. Making the barrel was the easy part but scraping the barrel channel to free float the barrel was the hardest part to me. Overall a fun project though.

Yup. My Wyoming long range honey hole (once was) was 90k acres. Could see the whole thing from anywhere on it.

Most fun I've every had huntin with a rifle. Could've been purchased for 35$ an acre in the 80's.
Nowadays, the owner gets 9500$ for a 5 day hunt.

Oh how lookin back hurts so good……
