I am new to the forum and somewhat new to long range hunting. I first started shooting out past 100 yards about 6 years ago, got into reloading and built my first rifle 3 years ago. I took a doe with it at 387 yards.

The rifle was a K29 Mauser action, Boyds stock, Green Mountain barrel, Bold Trigger, and a cheap Bushnell Nitro with mil holdover reticle. This was the first and only gun I have cut a barrel and chambered myself. Making the barrel was the easy part but scraping the barrel channel to free float the barrel was the hardest part to me. Overall a fun project though.

Welcome from Tennessee. So what is next? You can't stop with just one. Keep us posted.
Thanks, I have a Lone Peak Fusion action and a proof 300 wsm barrel waiting on parts to get finished right now. Also if I ever find a good deal on a quality barrel blank I may try my hand and making another barrel for this LP action.

Welcome from North-Central Wyoming! Nice work, I'd love to do that type of "smithing", but it's way above my pay grade!

While we're on introductions, what is favorite Alabama city…..Tuscaloosa or Auburn? As having grown up about 25 miles north of Death Valley (BR)…..you will be judged accordingly! 🤔😂 memtb

387 yards in Alabama? I`d say that`s a LONG shot for Alabama, or pretty much anywhere else in the Southeast. Mostly woods and small field hunting.

I was hunting a hay field in Banks Alabama. I could take up to a 550ish yard shot. Funny thing about hunting deer at that distance is they don't mind if you talk on the phone.
