New guy from NC/VA

Welcome from Florida. 30-06 is a great choice and will definitely get the job done. Do you have an area of Colorado you are wanting to hunt?
Right now we are looking at somewhere on the western side of the state, around the Rifle CO area. We are looking at outfitters and researching them pretty heavily along with so much else. I would love a DIY trip, but I think saving up a little extra would be the best bet and just keep deer hunting here on the east coast until then.

I have my buddy who I hunt with in Illinois, this year he bought a bull elk tag for Colorado over the counter bailed on my Illinois trip and shot a 6x6 in the first hour of the first day out there doing a DIY

And I don't blame him for bailing I would have gone to Colorado also

Hello to all, I visit the forum a bit here and there. I am researching now for a trip that I have planned next year 2024 in CO for a combo ELK/Mule deer trip. I am looking to get a new rifle as all I have now is an old REM 700 5R in 308 and then several smaller rifles. I am looking to get something in 30/06 so trying to research that a bit and find the right rifle for the trip and to use around home and glass. Also open to guide recommendations for out west. I am sure I will find quite a few through using search though.
Welcome from TX.

As mentioned before 30-06 should handle the job, but if 308 is your existing starting point, why limit your search to the 30-06 when there are multiple loads and calibers that are extremely efficient loads with just as available components.
(knowing nothing is extremely available these days.)

Do you have a particular reason for honing in on that specific round?
