Which Leica and Kestrel did you buy? The 3500? On the Kestrel did you get the Ballistic or the Elite? Did you get the Link version? If so, you really wouldn't need the cable.
I got the 2800.COM and the 5700 Elite with LiNK and Applied Ballistics. It sounded like, based on what I was reading on the Kestrel site, that I'd need the cable to upload custom curves from the computer.

Had 1st round hits at 740, 840, and 940 yard targets using the Leica 2800.com without kestrel today. Pretty thrilled with how well the Leica does on its own!
That's awesome. That's good to know. I assume you've been putting data to the Leica as you develop more of a curve for your setup?

On my hdb2200 they work great to 975 first round hits. I just had to play with the bullet speed a little my gun chrono at 3055 but the geovids work best set at 3075 Paractice and time makes it perfect but remember if ther inside. Chest harness they need to be outside of the pack for about 10 min to give correct dope and temp reading

What I do is use my ballistic AE app and true the data there for MV and BC out to however far I can shoot. Then with the Leica app I will tweak the data until the dope sheet it gives me matches within a few inches of the ballistic AE data at 1000 yards and a few points along the way. After that at the steel range I will use the Leica dopes and occasionally double check my app until I feel its Proven itself. I have done this for 3 cartridges so far, 25creed 25-06 and .22LR.
It is worth the hassle of setting it up correctly in the Leica app should a quick opportunity present itself at say..450 yards and you want to range and shoot rather than mess with the kestrel.
Yeah, I was thinking of using the Kestrel and AB to build dope and have that in the rangefinder. Hopefully I'm not off base on thinking that would work.

I too am looking to upgrade my rangefinder, and for you guys using the 2800.com I have some questions for you.
1. Is it possible to just use the Leica app to setup profiles and get drop info in the rangefinder display?
I am just thinking that pairing with the Kestrel in hunting situations will be too cumbersome with the time involved.
2. Or for clarification do you have to be connected to the Kestrel or phone app, in order see the drop info?
3. Never having used the Kestrel, is it just as easy to manually enter range to target and not worry about Bluetooth connections?
I have an older Leica rangefinder that works great but has no connectivity.

1. Yes, see above. Mine is giving me accurate dope from 0-940yards without a kestrel.
2. Not needed the rangefinder is a stand alone solution and will give you dope, however with kestrel you will probably get more precise data. The Leica will not give you wind holds without a kestrel.
3. Couldn't tell you, I have not used a kestrel (yet)

So once you have setup the profile data in the app, that info is in fact stored onboard the 2800.com ?

With the Kestrol does the Leica give you dope past 1009 yards. Mine only gives moa drop to 1009
