6.5-300WSM brass (270Wsm)

grafs has nosler 300wsm

norma 300wsm

I have loaded many of these 6.5x300, or 6.5x 270 WSM. Just run a 270 WSM thru your 6.5x300 WSM full length die. Load & shoot. Never have had to turn a neck.
You can't with a .293 neck chamber like O.P. has. Necked down 270wsm brass ends up about .295 loaded.

I also used 270 WSM brass and a .291 bushing in the 270 WSM die. One pass in the die and shoot. I never turned necks.

So what do you turn necks to then? Trying to learn something here.

.293-.264 = .029 / 2 = .0145". So assuming a little spring back of his fired brass you'd need a minimum .014 or .013 neck thickness to give enough clearance or is that still too tight? Thanks.

You can use whatever bushing you want to neck down 270wsm brass.
Its what a loaded round measures is what counts vrs neck chamber.

Personally if O.P. has a .293 neck chamber i would turn down to a loaded round of .289 for .004 clearance.

So I just necked down a 300WSM in steps to 6.5. Necks went from .0145 to .016". So turn necks to .0125 for a loaded of .289. Seems like a tight chamber.

Yeah it is, but if you turn you can get whatever clearance you want i prefer minimum of .004.
Years ago my first attempt at 6.5x300wsm I called Kiff at PTG told him what I wanted and he sent me a 6.5x300wsm reamer no turn at .300 neck chamber my loaded rounds were .294- .295. Well that first attempt with no turn wasn't very consistent and I believed it was because of thicker brass in the necks so later on I had JGS grind it back to .296 at it seems way more consistent.

Based on experience and fired cases, I would guess you have a 0.2935-0.2940" chamber.

If 270 WSM brass gives about 0.295" loaded round diameter, you will have to neck turn. 0.0155" neck thickness...I would turn to 0.291 loaded round diameter or 0.0135" neck thickness.

For this to size correct, I would use a 0.289" bushing and the Redding expander ball.

The loaded rounds she brought in where .288-.289. One was .293 and would not chamber. The others took a little force.
necks seems to be turned between .0125 and .0135
one round I was able to pull the bullet out - makes me think NT is .001 to .0015 on that one. Others are probably .0025 if my math is right

What diameter were fired cases?

I think I still have some Redding dies for that 6.5-300 WSM and some brass and even some loaded rounds. I'll check if your interested I'll make you a deal. PM me if interested
