Holy hazmat!!!

That not right! I have over the years received powder by UPS and other shippers. All it's come in is a cardboard box, beaten up and sometime just barely hanging together, likewise with ammo. Sometimes they have to tape the box back together. So it's not being handle with TLC by a long shot nor handle differently. The people that aren't on the know are scare of powder. I haven't seen any UPS trucks with a stove in them to cook up a hot meal either. Powder needs open flame and in a compress area to do anything. Otherwise it just burns up and no bang.
It's not a matter of shipping costs, it's the hazmat charge that really doesn't belong there. The charge may have come from Sick Willy. To Store Powder in a fire prof box only needs to be 3/4" thick wood to enclose the powder. That gives it's a 1 hour fire rating. "Look it up the net. I always compare prices that includes the cost of shipping, including hazmat to see if it a deal. Or I bend over and close my eyes.

You're basing your opinion on a statistically insignificant sample of 1. I can assure you that hazmat packages are handled differently based on the 16 years I've spent as a contractor for FedEx. There are restrictions on how, where and how many hazardous packages can go into van. There are restrictions on how the packages are moved in the building. Then there's the paperwork which must be reviewed and verified by a trained individual at the station. Added handling means added expense and somebody has to pay for that.

Implying that powder "just burns" isn't very accurate either. Having a fast and hot burning fire in an enclosed space full of cardboard and other potentially dangerous items (which drivers may or may know about) is a dangerous situation. All the hazmat regulations are put in place to protect drivers and anyone else on the road, not for political reasons. Hazmat fees aren't getting paid to the government and there are more efficient and effective ways they could restrict access to powder and primers.

What's the deal with these high hazmat fees plus shipping on top? Just capitalism at work during these times?? Just purchased a couple pounds of powder from a certain online retailer... $38 for hazmat then another $32 for shipping??? It's getting ridiculous.. guess I just needed to vent.
To fully understand the fees, does anyone know the details of the price structure. 1) Is the Fee based on weight Only? 2) Is there a fee for each vehicle transporting the powder/per Trip regardless of weight? 3) Is it somewhere between 1) & 2) to where there is a minimum fee per delivery but once the weight of the material increases to a certain amount, then after that value the price goes up proportional to the weight.

Brunos is nuts with their hazmat and shipping.About $37.00 each and super high prices on powder and primers.I bought the same things form Midway ,powder and primers cheaper and $13 dollars shipping and the same for Hazmat.

I just got 2 pounds of IMR4955 from my LGS for $72 tax included. That same 2 pounds from Midway would cost me over $96.

A UPS HazMat tag is $37 (each order) by it's self, plus the normal shipping charges which are based on weight, distance to delivery and the "dimensional weight" or size of the package. Pretty much averages $60 to ship across the country.
A shipper is only allowed to send out 100lbs per day, per carrier when using UPS or FedEx. That limit changes *if*
you are big enough to get a freight shipment out each day. But then the driver has to have a HazMat endorsement to move the truck.
Gets real expensive quick.

No offence meant but you got GOUGED I just bought 10lbs of powder last week of June from Powder Valley and Hazmat was $20 and S&H was $14.
I shopped around until I found the best deal on HAZ/S&H because I also ran into such elevated fees.

None taken. Just needed something that wasn't available anywhere that I could find. That fee just caused a little shock lol.

We aren't even allowed to order loaded ammo or powder for delivery here, all has to be pick up only!
You have lost most of your gun right their, and we here in the USA don't wake up we will be in the same boat. In Montana it can be a 100 mile or better trip to go to store to get powder and primes. That can be shot in the dark on what there in the store.

I load for several shotguns also. 12 gauge I use BlueDot which is one of the cheaper powders. I load 1 3/8 oz of shot in these loads @ 1300 fps. All I change is shot sizes, depending on what I am hunting or time of year. It was really great when could hunt ducks with lead, but that stop a long time ago now.

Do you call ahead before driving that far?

MIdway's hazmat fee is about $ll.99. You might want to buy powder from them. Also, they have free shipping for anything costing over around $50 a lot of the time. They had several of the powders I shoot in stock yesterday.

I don't think that powder is in the free shipping category. I tried before with no luck. 2 pounds of IMR4955 over $96. Screw that.
