PB groundhog with my 22-250

Had been seeing this groundhog for a few weeks but every time I'd try to get set up on him, he'd disappear in the brush. I finally caught him out in the open long enough to squeeze off on him. It's the longest shot i've made with my 22-250, only possible because I upgraded scopes.

Here are the specs:
Remington 788 22-250
Leupold VXII 6-18x40 AO
50gr Nosler BT ~4000 fps
Nosler brass
Fed GM210M

Lasered at 440 yards, I checked the wind, held slightly into the wind and squeezed. I saw it hit, then heard it WHOP as he rolled backwards.

Shot taken from between 2 red barns. Pic taken as I found him. You can see entrance at left chest area and see exit on his back.

Love the long range hunting and shooting, even in the summer. Make the best of it and make the shot count! I hope everyone is having a nice summer!

Wow, that is impressive! I shoot .22-250's (I have 2) and also a .220 Swift. I love the way these "Death Rays" perform. I'm sure you're the same way. Best fun you can have with your clothes on! Job well done!

My first centerfire rifle was a 788 in 22-250 back in '68. This started me into reloading and many days pursuing chuck's. You made a great shot! My longest back then was only 310, but it made me feel like a world class shooter at the time. I loved that rifle, still regret trading it for "something better". Hang on to that one, unless you want to sell it to me.

Thanks, I've taken them further, just not with my 22-250. The scope swap helps, can't hit what you can't see!

This gun was bought for pocket change back in the mid 90's. Dad and I worked up a 55gr load for it and I killed numerous critters with it. Here recently, I decided to start playing with it again. Tinkering with some loads, I've got 4 bullet/load combos that shoot to same POI at 200 yds. Its a real shooter for sure (trigger upgrade is next on the "to-do" list). 310 is a good poke, no doubt! Haha, i'll be holding onto this one, if I see any around, I'll let you know

I wish Remington still made those 788 rifles. I never saw one that
shot badly. My kid has one in .308 and has killed a bunch of deer
with it.

I was calling it closer from a long distance with my phone & Bluetooth speaker on the roof.

It crazy that you can still here that THUD from 150 metres away

55 bts do bust them up. I shot 3 last evening between 320 and 380. This one didn't get busted. He is in the freezer now, headed to the taxidermist. He'll look good next to the end table.

NICE!!!! Those blitzkings do the job! I have some 40's cranked up over 4000 fps for crows, I may try my luck with some 50's!

Building a 22-250, 1-8 Hart, timney trigger, Rem700 SA, NF 5.5-22x50 NSX.
After shooting prairie dogs the past couple of years the most fun a shooter can have is an accurate 22-250 shooting 75gr bullets.
