11.5" LOP on it 30" overall It's a pretty good little rifle. Bought one of their scopes for it also. Once I put the scope on nothing is safe from him lol he doesn't miss often

Sounds like a tough place to grow up! Some of my best memories were made with a Ruger no.3 in 22 hornet my uncle lent me while I saved up for a rifle of my own. I liked to shoot a lot and couldn't afford to feed it, so I bought myself an Anchutz sporter in 22LR.

Got really good mileage out of a subsonic pellet gun (pistol) my grandfather found. It had a reflex sight on it that I absolutely loved. After some practice I was able to shoot grouse in the head out to about 10m - nothing like bringing home supper at 10yrs old and feeling like a MAN!

If you don't get him a creedmore....he will grow up to hate you!

I don't have any kids, but have helped raise 2 fine young men. I started them out on the single shot 22 I learned with. I had them take it apart, refinish the stock and clean it. They then reassembled the rifle and we went over safety rules and general gun safety. They were hooked after the first shot. I have taken them to the range to shoot handguns, bolt action hunting files, lever action and the dreaded ar's. I bough the oldest a handgun he wanted for graduation and his mom had a fit. I wanted him to have one for the same reason we all carry one. I gave him a 12 ga. pump with a 18" barrel....because I had one and he wanted it for " home protection" at collage. How do you argue that? The youngest graduated high school this year. He can't make up his mind what he wants. So am letting him take whatever he wants from my stash until he decides. I'm beginning he to think he is playing me on this.......he switches out different ones all the time. I'm just glad they enjoy it and my safe fillers get to see daylight......and cleaned! win win I'd say

I got my son a CZ-452 "scout" when he was 6 and it's a fine little rifle. I agree with some of the other comments about making things fun with reactive targets. Also a little fixed power 4X scope is a good idea. Shooting iron sights is a great skill and it's how I learned but let's face it - scopes are cool. Let him learn irons later with an 03 Springfield or M1 when he's a bit older!

For reactive targets, I fill soda cans with water and hang them off a board down range by the pull tabs off of tea cup hooks. They really explode at 25-50 yards when you hit them with a 22lr.

When he masters the rim fire, move him up to center fire with an AR-15. I had My son shooting mine at 7. Drill the safety into his head every chance you get and remind him that even though it's fun, being in control of a loaded firearm is a tremendous responsibility.

My son is now 12. He got his hunters safety certificate at 9 and routinely sits in a 2 man blind with me with a .243 or .25-06. We have our own land and I got crop damage permits, so he's tagged does out to about 220 so far. This year however, he has been informed that dad will not be field dressing any more of his kills. If he can pull a trigger, he can work a Buck 110!
