Hey folks. I'm kicking around the idea of rebarreling my 788 and going with a 8 twist 24" tube. That should handle most of the bullets I'll likely use up to about 107, not sure on how heavy of a mono will work. The thing I don't care for is having to spend $140 on a trigger and waiting a couple months for a pre fit or a gunsmith install.
I see Ruger sells the American predator in 243 with AI mags and a 9" twist. Remington also makes a 783 varmint with a nice laminate stock and a 9" twist 26" barrel. Both of these have pretty good triggers for factory rifles.
I've also rolled around the thought of selling the 788 and getting a Bergara HMR in 6mm, but that means new dies.
Anyone have experience shooting heavies with a 1-9" twist? How heavy can you go with monos? Will they handle 107-110 grain slugs or is 105 tops?
