Good evening. I was bored last week cleaning up gun room and had a long action from a savage 110 7mm. Also found a standard bolt face, barrel nut, and recoil lug. My son had a long action savage stock we never used, add it all up and all i need is a barrel for a new rifle. The 6.5-284 norma came to mind. Nss has 24" light varmints and 26" criterion varmints in stock. I ordered some norma brass and 140 vlds. Loaded with h4350 from 46-50gr in one gr increments. Please advise?!?

4831sc is pretty good in the 6.5 284 with 140 vld. Without looking in my book I think I was close to 59gr at about 2875 in a 26 Bench.

I just put together a SavagevLA with Criterion barrel(Light Palma) in 6.5x284. Order a trued recoil lug and nut from nSS, James is very helpful. It shoots quite well with Lapua brass, 57grTetumbo, CCIBR2 primers, Berger 140HVLD's

I have some 4831,rl25,rl23,and rl26. It seems like quite a few powders perform in this round. I appreciate the info, keep it coming!

59 gr of 4831 is way over the top may wanna check that before throwing numbers out. 52.5 in a 24 in lrh running 2850 here with bergers right at 2800 with eldx

Yes, you should check your book! 59gr is TOO high. 52-53gr of H4831sc generates about 2850-2950FPS in several 6.5x284's with 24-26" barrels I have worked with.

Oh boy, I think so too. I'm running what I would consider maybe a "medium" charge with a 130 Accubond out of a 26" bbl. (52.3 grains of H4831sc.). It's lumbering down the range at 2,920 fps.
