Thank you for letting me join LRH. I have stalked this forum for the better part of a year now and thought it was high-time to join. To date, I've only shot out to about 600 meters or so but have aspirations to start shooting to 1000+.
 
morning, I live in Schertz, try the range at camp Bullis.
this is west of San Antonio. check a place to shoot. that's
the name. check with the New Braunfels BBB for addresses
and locations of places to shoot. also join the Tex. State
Rifle ***. these people will know all of the long range
rifle ranges near or around ur area. justme gbot tum
 
morning, I belonged to Dietz range for many years. after
Howard died, I heard his son,sons mother bit ch took over the range.
there was an navy veteran and German
gentleman that were range masters. Doug and Hilmer.
Hilmer and myself would bet lunch on who could shoot
the smallest group. Hilmer was straight from mother
Germany. Hilmer did have some to most beautiful
german made custom rifles I'd have ever seen. some
of the rifles Hilmer made himself. Hilmer and I would talk
calibers, powders and loads for certain calibers.
I remember the time I was shooting my custom 6mmai.
hilmer brought over a 308cal. rifle, was working on the
stock. wanted to shoot for lunch. we shot 3 rounds
100yds. measured the groups. taking
the .308 dia. and .243 dia. bullets. subtract the 243dia.
from the .308dia. he beat me .065" Hilmer was
shy because of his very german accent.
heard Doug and Hilmer passed away. ghost of

I've shot at Dietz range four or five times, but only on the rifle range. It is handy as far as location goes, however, I don't get much out of shooting on a static range, waiting for cease-fires to go check/service targets, and generally being a heavily controlled environment. Really only used Dietz range for zeroing a rifle or confirming zero. Lately I've been going to Cedar Ridge Range and shooting in the IDPA matches on the third Saturdays of the month.
 
In addition to joining LRH, I also recently started a blog site. I've got no prior experience with blogging, but started doing it as a way to do something positive while I fight through job hunting and a weird complication from recent back surgery. It is more of a rambling, disjointed personal perspective on hunting and shooting things.

I heard Hilmer went back to Germany. I knew about Howard dying but not Hilmer. I normally go to the range on Mondays and Tuesdays as it is only open to members only. Spend a lot of hours BSing with Ron and other retired military guys. It has been a few weeks since I have been there since I had eye surgery and had complications. At the moment I cannot drive anywhere and it will take a few months and a second surgery to regain full use of my vision. Until than I am stuck with shooting my pellet rifle in the back yard practicing my off hand. Luckily it was not my dominant eye that got mess up.
