Here is another angle. A cougar kills a deer a week, sometimes they get an elk. A wolf pack of four needs a deer a day to survive. I know this thread has turned into guilty/not guilty but the truth of the matter is that wolves do not belong in a conservative (conservation) atmosphere, period.
I am from an area were the mule deer, white tail and elk hunting was almost a utopia. Now all you see are wolf tracks. There is still game in region 1 of Montana but not like it was even 7 years ago.
Have any of you seen a black bear or grizzly remains that was dug out of hibernation by wolves ? Or a cougar that was trailed by a pack, running the cougar off it's kill before it could even get to the liver ? They will do this over and over and many times, end up killing the cat through exhaustion.
Once a pack has established a den they will do what they have to, to defend it. They are very territorial. I personally have never had a life or death experiance, but did have them on both sides of me in a dark patch of lodgepole during a heavy fog. I fired a warning shot and they were gone. I will admit i was on guard the rest of the day.

That's somewhere I haven't ever been in between them. I have a buddy who got between a sow and her cubs once and I don't know why she didn't kill him. He just took off running. Archery hunting a warning shot doesn't do a lot of good. Oregon should be a great hunting state, but instead here we are with low numbers and impossible to draw tags, so lets introduce wolves. Bring some numbers down a little more.The mule deer population is terrible and all the tree huggers want to do is bring in more predators. Lets focus on taking care of the animals we have before we start bringing in more that we obviously can't handle. With us being new to the wolf scene I have read that they will hunt other predators but have never witnessed it or found a bear killed in his den or anything. They were here at some point in time so it can be done. Man has screwed most of it up though beyond repair imo.

I was on a Coyote hunt or set up calling for them and had one coming in in front I was just about to shoot when I was grabbed from the side on my arm, my buddy shot it almost at the same time but I still have the bite marks to show..
Both Coyote was shot one on me the other was 3 feet away..Wolf yes I would shoot them 50 feet away as soon as I could..Remember they have bigger teeth and have killed others in the past..

pretty quickly the whole pack is at it's demise.
Food for thought ! Be pro-active against these things(wolves).

Within the article about the Oregon man shooting the wolf is a link to a Wikipedia page listing wolf attacks in North America. Many people distrust the information if it came from Wikipedia because it's written by the people who use it. However the first two entries are of Candace Berner and Kenton Carnegie, both of which had been killed and partially consumed by wolves since 2005!

Many of you know the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is not an actual Humane Society but an extremist animal rights organization which exists to write and introduce anti-hunting legislation across this nation. Outdoor Life magazine and other hunting magazines have written about the HSUS in the past in the effort to educate hunters about the enemy. The HSUS sells itself an "animal protection" organization but the reality is that they are behind writing and introducing most of the anti-animal ownership legislation we see. The HSUS is closely affiliated with Peta through the animal rights philosophy as well as with also sharing employees. Looking at many of the animal rights groups as a whole, they tend to have incestuous relationships with each other because of employees jumping from working for one animal rights organization and then the other. In other words -- a number of HSUS employees have worked for other animal rights groups and vice-versa. The HSUS also has at least one employee who has been a member of the Animal Liberation Front, a domestic terrorist group according to the FBI.
Anyway – my point is that these animal rights groups are willing to take their anti-hunting agenda a small step at a time in order to achieve their goal of ending all hunting. They are behind introducing wolves into the U.S. and then protecting them from any reasonable control because they know the wolves will devastate our huntable herds before the balance of nature decreases the numbers of wolves. We've already seen that in parts of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho too and it's now beginning to happen in Oregon.
When the herds become devastated, there will be fewer people hunting which will compute to fewer fathers passing along the hunting heritage to their children. It's all part of the greater plan!
We can blame the libitards all we want but if we're to turn this thing around we need to identify an actual enemy – and educate America that this enemy is not a friend of animals nor are they a friend of America. That enemy is the HSUS!

I wasn't there; but I'm having a very hard time trying to swallow this incredible load of ********! Sounds like this small time business man is a "Trigger Happy Weekend Warrior Wannabe"! Can't eat or sleep? You KILLED the beast! What you so terrified of? Living up to the story you told? The day I can't tell a wolf from a Coyote at 27 yards is the day I'll NEVER ENTER the WOODS with my RIFLE AGAIN! The Indians say that when you kill a beast you have complete authority over its spirit. Makes me wonder why he can't sleep or eat! My guts say he SHOT the animal as it was standing still; or turning to leave after it spotted him! A totally terrified coward in complete fear for his safety and perhaps life who raised his weapon and only saw fur and fired on a charging mad minded attacking wolf; YEP its getting MIGHTY DEEP in HERE! Time for me to leave fellas! LOL Jerry Springer shows on now. At least I KNOW what to expect when I watch that!

On the bottom of the below Wikipedia page there are reports of over 100 verified wolf encounters -- some of which are attacks that resulted in human deaths. Anyone ignoring this information is not being reasonable!
