Hey, I'm looking into getting a Savage 110FP in 300 Win Mag. I will be using it for long range hunting and also target shooting. I was thinking of using the 240gr. Sierra Matchkings for the longest shots. What do you guys think the range of the 300WinMag. rounds will be in this gun setup? I am planning on upgrading the rifle later when I have more money. Thanks Nathan, gun)

tactical hits,i have that very rifle.i,ve been shooting 210 bergers,208 amax,200smk.best seem to be 208 amax in the lands.4" 3 shot group at 625 yards.havent shot any deer with it yet but with the right load can hit mossy spots on large rocks here in pa at long range.i do have a "confirmed kill on a porquipine at 650,one shot.these rifles will do the job.i had a muzzle brake installed and put the action in a richard microfit walnut benchrest stock.i built an aluminum bench that can be carried like a treestand and carried to hunting spot.good luck.good choiceas far as bullets above is what i shoot.got some 240's to try myself.have shot some at 650 but havent "dialed" them in yet.they may never shoot.sierra reccomends a 1/9 twist for these.the 110fp is 1/10 twist.i do know a fellow who shot the 240's out of a 300 weatherby at 1000 yard benchrest matches in a 1/10 twist and shot fairly well.with 200 grain bullets at 2900 fps this caliber should be good to 1000 yards.jason

the 208 A-max , 210 Berger , 210 Sierra Match King , 220gr Match King as well as the 190 class match bullets would be your best bet as they will certainly stabilize at the speeds the 300 can make out of a 24" 1-10 barrel , all these bullets out of that gun assuming its accurate enough will cleanly kill deer out past 1000yds , probaby stabilized to nearly a mile !! so the accuracy will be the factor.
I had a 300 win mag that would shoot factroy loaded BlackHills ammo with the 190gr SMK very well at 1000yds.

    Tacticalhits,
This catrridge is easily a 1000yrd performer,if not further.
To get the most out of it ,you need to use bullets no lighter than 200gr.I have had very good/excellent results with the Nosler 200gr accubond,BC of .588,I don't know what the BC of the SMK bullet is,they're not available in Down Under, but it can't be too much better than this.
I have had confirmed hits on kangaroos @ 800+ yds with this calibre, same with my 25-06 Rem.
My rifle is not a regular long range unit,it's a Kimber 8400 Classic Select Grade in 300 Win Mag,26" barrel, and it only weighs 7 3/4 lbs, with scope,a Leupold 3.5-10-40 VXIII.
You really need to study your ballistic tables to be able to do this with this type of set up,the scope is great, but @ long range it leaves a little to be desired, but I also use this outfit for regular hunting as well, mostly Sambar deer.
I think your rifle should perform satisfactorily.

I am have done some more research, and planning on using a choate sniper stock. I am also considering buying just the Savage Action and getting a custom barrel in a 1 in 9" twist for the 240gr. Sierra Matchkings.
What do you guys think about this idea? Also, what would be a good barrel length, plus a good muzzle brake! Any idea's, or where I can find a good barrel would be helpful! Thanks Nathan,

Here is a link for the choate stock.

I was told by one of the guy's at Sierra, that the 240 gr. bullet would work fine in a 1/10 twist.I also have the savage 110fp,and currently working on a load for the 240gr MK's.

Let me know how it works out!

Also, do you think its worth getting a longer barrel? I would like accuracy out past 1000yards.
    Thanks Nathan,

the 300 win mag will shot well past 1000yds with 24" barrel with a 190 Sierra Match King , the 220gr would be a better choice.

on that stock I'd recomend that you get the varmint style rather than the sniper stock , that stock desgine is kinda funky to shoot off bags with the longer flat forend on the Varmint stock is much more used friendly

So far I got the 240gr SMK shooting 3 shots@ 100yds. in a 1/2" group. That is with RL 22 @ 64gr. and C.O.L. 3.483.I will finish up my testing from 300yds. to fine tune it,just waiting on a calm day.I will let you know how it turns out.

    Update,
    I settled on a load for the 240gr MK,RL 22 @63.8gr.'s,C.O.L=3.483,and CCI LRM primer.This load gave me 2480fps.
With that load I put 3 shots in 1 1/4'' group @ 300yds.Even though the 240MK is designed for 1/9 twist,it shoots great out of my factory Savage 1/10 twist.

I can't wait until I get my tax returns so I can order the gun and gear!
What Setup do you have on your Savage 110fp? Is it all stock? If you could post a picture on here that would be great! Thanks Nathan, gun)

It's just a bone stock 110fp with a 24'' barrel.I do have a new stock on order from stockade(varmint/tactical).Before you spend a bunch of money on custom parts for your savage(barrel, stock etc.)I would just shoot it as is,I think you will be quite surprised how well it will shoot right out of the box.

Barrel length plays no part in accuracy.A longer barrel will only give you higher (slight) velocity for better ranging ability.

I was wondering what is the longest accurate shot that you have heard of by a 300win mag? In any rifle setup? Just wondering? Thanks Nathan,
