I know AR 500 is kind of the standard, anyone have experience with Hardox 450?
$10 for a 6" plate is what I see at a trade show today. Thoughts?

Should work just fine. The numbers '450' and '500' describe the steel's mechanical properties - in this case resistance to deformation or 'hardness' on the Brinell scale.

Keep in mind AR 500 is 10% harder, so keep that in mind when choosing your thickness. I don't have any experience with hardox, but materials data suggests Hardox 450 will have to be a little thicker, or a little farther away to give the same life expectancy as AR 500.

I'm using ar 400 and it's working fine. Smaller plates deform less because they're lighter. A bigger heavier plate of the same steel will pockmark more than the little plates.

I'm also using ar400, 1/2", from the scrap yard. 223 FMJ's at 100yds will make tiny divots. Hunting type bullets don't leave a mark up to 7rm. I would think the 450 would do fine.
