I opt for the .300 win mag as the single most versatile hunting cartridge for North American hunting. It's what I use. The 7s are arguably better from an external ballistics stand, but 200+ grain bullets inspire confidence regarding terminal ballistics. The .338 cartridges either fall a good bit behind regarding trajectory or generate a lot more recoil to match it. To be honest i myself have never been interested in any of them, their neither here nor there, not capable of the low recoil long range ballistics from reasonably portable rifles that the 7s and 30s are, not equal to the .375s for thumping power.
