OK...I picked up a very nice, hardly used Rem 700 VS in 308...have a new Leupold 4.5-14x40 LR/T with side AO and 30mm tube...duplex reticle..

what base and rings should I get?

With a 168 MK how much elevation do I need to get to 600 yards?

do I need a 20MOA base?..or what?...maybe the Leupold has enough adjustment to get to 600 without a tapered base?

if i read my graphs right and you have a muzzle velocity of 2700fps, at 600 yds you will be traveling aprox 1547fps with 892.6 ft lbs energy and it will take 17.6 moa (70 clicks at .25moa per ckick) to get there assuming a zero at 100. I believe that mark 4 has 30 moa each way total of 60 so you should be good without a canted base unless you somehow used up 12.4moa getting it zeroed.

hello you should run the turrets on your scope up to the top and down to the bottom and count the clicks then write it down in your log book. I have the same scope you do on my 308 you should have more than enough elevation to get you to 600 but if you want to push it past 1000 I would get the 20MOA base.

You can probably get there but it will be close.

With a 100yrd zero it takes about 58 clicks or 14.5 MOA and at a thousand yards 138 clicks
or 34 MOA.

At 600 yrds your scope may work but if you want to shoot 1000yrds then you will need a
15 or 20 MOA base.

since the long range bug bit me a couple months back I started with a 700 VLS in 6mm, then got a VS in 308...now I picked up a stainless fluted Sendero in 7 STW......three rifles later and I still haven't fired a group past 300 meters.....I think the STW will be a good long range hunter...the VLS is gone but I'll hang on to the VS 308 for now....
