I am shooting the Berger 115gr VLD in 25-06 caliber. I have read on a few sites that the 25-06 is easy to load for and will take many diffrent powders well. I also found many to say that the H4831sc was a great powder for the 25-06 however many felt it worked best pushing bullets under 100gr and that Retumbo was a better choice for the heavier bullets of 100gr and larger.
What say yal? Thank's, Brad

I no longer have a 25-06 but I had good luck with 4831 sc and RL17. RL 17 was the better of the two but temperature sensitive so I went back to 4831sc. It was very good for me. My node was at 50 gr 4831sc using Fed 210 primers and Hornady Brass. I did not have Chrony at the time. I never tried Retumbo that I recall.

Here is a thread I started back when I had the rig....

I tried retumbo out with the 115 gr bergers out of my 06 but 4831sc worked better for me. I am loading 54 gr of 4831sc currently and don't think that I will change it because it is very accurate out of my gun.

RL17 & 100 gr Nosler BTs are an awesome combo in my 257 WBY Mag its AV is 3749 and an inch group at 100 yards.

H-4831 or H-4831SC is pretty hard to beat, It's always been one of my go to powder over the years in 25 cal.

Have you given any thought to trying H1000?? In my 280AI with 140gr bullets it really likes H4831SC and if I move up to 162gr bullets it loves H1000. I think on hodgdons burn rate scale H1000 is after H4831. How long is the barrel?

Aldon, Even on your thread I noticed somebody saying the same of retumbo as I've seen elsewhere. I've bee using the H4831sc at 54gr and it is very accurate (about .4 moa) however I am certainly not seeing the velocities others are claiming. I have a 24" barrel and have chrono'd alot of these rounds and find 3035fps to be about average. I wonder why the big velocity diffrence between what I'm seeing and what others are claiming. Brad

I have no idea why your velocities are what they are. But .4 is great. I used to chase velocity but I now tend to value the consistently small group more so.

Brad H4831sc is probably the absolute best all around, but you may not give up hardly any accuracy or ES with 57-59grns of H1000 with Fed210Ms. Also about the same charge of RE25 will do the same but I don't care for the sensativity, but both of these powders should give you about 100-125fps gain.
