If I trim wouldn't that change the C.O.L. ? I noticed most factory ammo is shorter than my reloads. I will try an empty case

Trim length will not affect COL, for the 7-08, trim length is 2.025, max length is 2.035, I keep mine in the middle.
Make certain that headspace isn't an issue as well, probably be a good idea to full length size the piece of brass before trimming.
If you're saying that 19 out of 20 shells cycled fine, I'd take measurements of the one that didn't and compare the case length, headspace, and base to ogive length, and see if you can find the difference. A great tool to have if you don't already is one of these, it'll measure the case length and the headspace.

A friend bought a ruger to sight in a few days ago and it would not pick up a cartridge from the magazine. We opened the lips on the magazine a tiny bit and that fixed the problem.
Good thinking, I put some duck tape on the inside of my clip and it picked the last one (cartridge) up, I guess I need to remove a little of the Boyd's stock
