7mm Rem mag, 180 Bergers and Reloder 26

I'm shooting the 180 Berger hybrids out of my 28 in barrel, my load is Norma brass, 71gn h1000, f215m primers, and the oal is 2.700 which is 5 thousands off the lands in my barrel, getting 3025fps, and a es of 4, shoots in .2-.3 all day everyday if I do my part. I'm at sea level.

What twist rate @ sea level for those results?

Shucks! Hoping you were getting that with a 9 twist. I had to drop back to a 168 to get full stabilization. Seems as though my 9 twist 7stw does fine with 180 hybrid @ 1600', probably the higher velocity. Thanks

I'm shooting almost the exact same thing from a 1-8.5 Bartlein except with 70 gr of H1000 and about 30/1000ths off the lands. I'm getting 2800 fps with an ES of about 40-50 fps and it holds just under an inch. Elevation 4,700 feet. Glad to know somebody is getting good results, I've been less than impressed with this barrel.

Results with the 175 ELDXs was considerably worse.

Yeah it would seem you'd get better groups and es. Have you tried Reloder 23 and/or Hornady 180 eldm's? I've had great luck with both of these in several 7mags.

No I haven't but appreciate the advice. I'm definitely looking for an improvement.

Thanks,

You bet. I'm like you with the eld-x bullets. I've tried several and haven't gotten them to shoot. With eldm's, I've had best accuracy .020-.050 off lands.

I would try the Bergers if you don't get results with the hornady's....I tried the 143 and the 147 in my 260 ai and they were .5-.75 MOA and 25-35 fps e.s....switched back to the Bergers with rl-26 and dropped to .25 MOA and single digit e.s., I gave up some b.c. but at a 50% or more improvement in accuracy and way better e.s., I still feel I'm ahead. Just wish they weren't $50 per 100...ha ha.

Have you tried the RL26 with your 180 Bergers? Your mileage may vary but you may have to try more RL26 than you expect...

I shoot a 270Wby that has almost the same case as your 7MM Rem Mag...

RL26 worked like magic with my 170gr Bergers...3225fps out of a 28", 1-9 twist, with an ES of around 10....

H1000, 7977, Retumbo, MagPro all worked well...However, in my case, RL26 kicked butt...

ETA...50 cents for a premium bullet is a dream...

Just driving to a hunting area in your $50K rig as it burns lots of fuel...not including food...a premium bullet...is cheap...

50K truck?? Your dreaming ha ha. I'm a Deputy for my Sheriffs department, we don't make that kind of money...half that is pushing it.

I have tried rl26, I'm getting 3020 from the 180. 26" factory tube. Some more load development to come, but it's gonna hang around 3000 I'm pretty sure, it's a good node with very small e.s. and great accuracy. Just need to fine tune it in the new hornady brass we got for this rifle and it will be ready for trajectory validation and practice for season. My cousin and I both have 2 antelope, an elk, a deer, and he has a second deer in idaho to kill, so we should get some good testing this fall.

Take care,

Not a 7 em, but I am getting 3020 fps and groups in the .2's from my 7 WSM with 66gr of R26 and the 180 eld-m. With 180 bergers I was using 66.5 of R26 and getting 2970fps with 180 bergers and groups around .3-.4.
