My Dad and I did some pretty extensive load work up on his Remington 700 SPS Stainless 7mm Rem Mag this past year. We settled on Hornady 162gr ELD Match bullets seated 0.050 off the lands, Norma brass, Remington 9 1/2 Magnum primers, and RL26. I suggest finding your lands and starting the bullets 0.010 off. Then find your powder node.
We started around 65gr of RL26 and worked up in 0.2gr increments looking for a velocity node around 3050fps. We found a great node at 68.6-69.0gr that had low very minimal velocity change. He settled on 68.8gr for an average velocity of 3070fps and single digit standard deviation. We worked his seat length back and found that his rifle really liked these bullets 0.050 off. Please do not directly duplicate his load, start a few grains low and work up. Every rifle and lot of components can be totally different.
We also experimented with H1000 but chose RL26 over it due to better velocity and we have a lot more of it on hand. We started at 66.0gr of H1000 and stopped working up around 70gr. We got up to 3040-3050 but weren't seeing as consistent results as we saw with RL26.
