338 Lapua Savage Action for $495.00

Might want to go with the 338 RUM. You get everything the Lapua case does for a LOT less money invested in cases that last the same amount of time.

Here is a pic of a 338 RUM based on the Savage Target action with a Rock Creek 32" barrel & StraightShot muzzle brake. Provides 2950 FPS with the 300 Sierra Match Kings. Longest deer to date....1600 yards - one shot and DRT. The impact of the 300 SMK is unbelievable.

What is the load that you are using in your rum to get 2950 with a 300 smk.

Close to 100 grains of Retumbo. I am 655.1 miles from home....don't have the info here.

We started with RL25 (because the owner of the rifle bought several jugs of it), but found Retumbo was easier on the cases and a touch more accurate, especially at distance. You can see the RL25 taper off from 92 to 92.5 gr as well.

Beginning the load workup of Retumbo:

We went to 3050 fps with Retumbo, but backed off to 2950 to help extend the life of cases...and...well....for safety. Have never had a sticky bolt at 2950 when shot at any temperature ....10 F to 90F....so that is what we built the ballistic charts for and zeroed the scope at 1000 yards with a 40 MOA base and 20 MOA in the rings. With the Nightforce, just dial up and go.
