Hello everyone I am in the middle of building me a Edge and was just wanting to see if anyone has some pet loads for this caliber they wouldn't mind passing along.
Thanks in advance for any help

I shoot with Shawn Carlock and have done 3 of his long-range shooting schools and here's the load:

    '93,0g of H1000
    CCI 250 Primer
Berger VLD seated 15 to 20 thousands off the lans
    1:10 Twist barrel.

obviously you need to work up to the 93g load in .5g increments and play with your seating depth.

I have pushed my to 95.0g of H1000 but blew a primer and backed down to 93.0

You can also visit Defensive Edge's site and get some load information there.

If you decide on H-1000 I recommend you work up from around 86 grains. I would have to check my notes but if I recall correctly 90.3 grains got me around 2950-ish with the 300 SMK. Definitely a little hot for this round (this was with a 338 RUM).

The .338 RUM does not have the save case capacity as the .300 RUM which is why a 90.0g starting load is plenty good. If shooting a .338 Edge.

Work up in 1/2g increments until you see pressure sighs and back off.

Question: What barrel length (and chronograph) are you shooting on the .338 RUM to get you 2950 fps with a 300g SMK? Maybe due to the smaller case capacity and higher pressure on the .338 RUM you can get that velocity with less powder. Maybe.

I'm guessing my chrono wasn't out to lunch because I had ejector marks and loose primer pockets.

Thats good advice to be giving, (start with 90 grains and work up, plenty good!) or maybe you should just jump right in and go to 93 grain, don't worry about the fact that powder lots can be quite different.

Fatrack, still don't think your going to get that kind of velocity from a 338rum even with the loose primers and ejector marks. I got them on my edge and still don't get that fast.

i am shooting 93.0g of H-1000 in my rifle (.338 Wildcat on a .300 RUM case) with a 29" barrel and am getting 2,830 FPS which is what i am using my ballistic program.

How you get faster speeds with less powder and shorter barrel is beyond me. I am using a PVM-21 Chronograph which is supposed to be pretty high-end and very accurate.

You might want to try some "Trajectory Validation" experiments on your Ballistic Computer to see how your rifle does at 1K yards + and see if your elevation is good with that velocity. If not, you can adjust your velocity in your program match your impact points.

Not sure that is much help but it just doesn't seem accurate to me.

    Shepardsonp,

What is the serial #on the can of H-1000 you using? I'm guessing its an older lot as the powder has gotten faster over the last year. This is not just my speculation as others have had the same results.

    My barrel is 30".

I was using 93 gr of h-1000 and getting 2850 fps. Bought a new 8lb can and jumped to 2950 to 2980with a sticky bolt and ejector marks. Ended up at 90 grs. to get me back to 2850 and low es. Some lots are HOTTER so starting at 86grs is good advice until you see what batch of h-1000 you got.
